This was bugging me a while. I built a new computer, I dowloaded firefox, which is supposed to be secure, I've installed both Spybot Search and Destroy and Lavasoft Ad Aware. I'd run my anti-spyware aps and each and every single time, I'd have spyware. I tried to uninstall and reinstall firefox, I blamed Media Monkey (software to play one's music) and got rid of that. I couldn't figure how come I'd clean my system and spyware just came right back. I wasn't happy with the situation, spyware could dowload more spyware and then you could have something really insidious infecting your machine. I pay bills and check my bank account online, and I sure as hell don't need a keystroke logger coming in via doubleclick.net so this had to end.

THEN, I ran Spybot and looked at exactly what I had. My spyware, zedo, doubleclick.net and others were all tracking cookies. I said "okay, they're cookies, how to get RID of them? Then I opened firefox, went to tools/options/privacy. There are two buttons, one that says "show cookies" and another that says "exceptions." Exceptions allows one to either block or allow cookies. I compared the list of spyware I had on Spybot with the cookies firefox was showing me. I then went and had firefox block every single cookie Spybot said was spyware. I surfed the 'net again, picked up a few more tracking cookies and had those blocked as well. It has worked so far and I've picked up a technique for blocking some spyware. I thought I'd share it with others.

Dammit.
