NEW YORK - A dozen rats were caught on video scurrying around the floor of a New York City KFC/Taco Bell restaurant early Friday, running between counters and tables and climbing on children's high chairs.

"This is completely unacceptable and is an absolute violation of our high standards," KFC and Taco Bell said in a statement. "This restaurant has been closed and we are addressing the issue with the franchise owner. We will not allow this store to reopen until is it completely resanitized and given a clean bill of health."

Now with this and the Ecoli issue, I think I am going to stay away from the two restaraunts for a while.

People have wondered for years just what the mystery meat in the quasi-mexican food was ... now they have their answer. Imagine what the "chicken" really is!

I truly do not think this is an uncommon phenomena. A poster on another site did inspections at a cereal packers. He said there were always critter tracks all over the plant. It can't be helped. They do their best to keep the vermin down but they do appear. Then you rid them...then they reappear.

If anyone has had experience working with bulk foods you just KNOW you ain't ever gonna buy bulk food candy or much else from those places. Cutomers leaning over the bins scooping the stuff out is a bacteria festival and those are the clean ones.

Rats are very edible. Civil War P.O.W.s would eat them because they had nothing else. One soldier said that they tasted just like squirell, dammit.

Secondly, it seems that Taco Bell is having all sorts of problems. FIRST it was the e.coli in their green onions NOW it's rats infesting one of their stores.

Gee, and I like Taco Bell too, dammit.

Yeah you and my mother. That's a line parents use when kids get pissy about not wanting to eat what ever is in the house but the kid keeps whining that they are hungry.

It's just a nicer way of saying shut the fuck up or I am gonna take a two by four to your head.

Me too, but I'm not too surprised - their employees seem to be pretty low on the fast food worker food chain.

The latest oxymoron?
YUM Brands (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,254506,00.html)

NEW YORK — The city health department was trying to figure out Sunday why a KFC-Taco Bell restaurant had passed an inspection the day before video footage caught a dozen rats scampering across its floors.
"It doesn't look like the inspection that was done Thursday met our standards," said Geoffrey Cowley, a health department spokesman. "I don't want to prejudge that. We're concerned and we're going to carefully revaluate that inspection."
The fast-food operation, located in Greenwich Village, was shut down by the city on Friday after the video of the rodents was widely broadcast and attracted streams of sidewalk gawkers. It remained closed on Sunday.
A failing inspection score issued by the health department is 28 or above.
The restaurant passed an inspection in March 2006 — though it was fined $1,300 for some violations including mice droppings — earning 23 points. On Thursday, the KFC-Taco Bell passed another check — earning nine points — after complaints to the city's information hotline prompted an inspector to visit.
On Friday, however, a more senior inspector gave the restaurant 92 points in violations, Cowley said.
Yum Brands (YUM), the parent company of KFC-Taco Bell, has called the situation unacceptable and a violation of its high standards. The company said construction in the basement of the building apparently stirred up the rats.
Cowley said no action had been taken against the Thursday inspector but that the department is looking carefully at the situation. "We inspect 30,000 food establishments every year," he said. "We're doing vigorous enforcement."
