This is fucking disgusting. (http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/02/19/homeless.attacks/index.html) These kids should be locked up and the key should be thrown away! What kind of sick, twisted, sociopathic kids are we raising in America?!?!

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (CNN) -- All Nathan Moore says he wanted to do was smoke pot and get drunk with his friends.

Killing Rex Baum was never part of the plan that day in 2004.

"It all started off as a game," Moore said.

The 15-year-old and his friends were taunting the homeless man -- throwing sticks and leaves -- after having a couple of beers with him.

No big deal, Moore says, but he's sorry for what came next.

It was a mistake, he said, a sudden primal surge that made him and his friends Luis Oyola, 16, and 17-year-old Andrew Ihrcke begin punching and kicking Baum.

"Luis says 'I'm gonna go hit him,' We're all laughing, thought he was joking around,'" but he wasn't, Moore concedes. "We just all started hitting him."

They hurled anything they could find -- rocks, bricks, even Baum's barbecue grill -- and pounded the 49-year-old with a pipe and with the baseball bat he kept at his campsite for protection.

Ihrcke smeared his own feces on Baum's face before cutting him with a knife "to see if he was alive," Moore said.

After destroying Baum's camp, the boys left the homeless man -- head wedged in his own grill -- under a piece of plastic where they hoped the "animals would eat" him.

Then, Moore says, they took off to grab a bite at McDonald's.

Baum's murder was indicative of a disturbing trend.

A National Coalition for the Homeless report says last year, there were 122 attacks and 20 murders against the homeless, the most attacks in nearly a decade. (Coalition report on 2006 homeless attacks)

Police found Baum's body two days after the teens attacked him.

They bragged about it around town. Police picked them up and they described what happened.

Ihrcke told police that killing "the bum" reminded him of playing a violent video game, a police report shows.

All three teens pleaded no contest to first degree reckless homicide charges and went to prison.

Moore recently turned 18 at Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin, where he is serving a 15 year sentence.

"When [the beating] stops, you say, 'What did we just do?'" he told CNN. "There's no rational explanation." (Watch teen explain how "game" became tragedy )

That is grossly disturbing.

Sadly, I am vividly reminded of A Clockwork Orange.

"Up for a bit of the old ultraviolence?"

Reminded me of Lord of the Flies, but A Clockwork Orange is probably a better reference.

Locking them up is too good for these animals. Euthenasia sounds nice. Chalk them up as a loss and lets not pay to keep them well fed for the rest of their lives.

What's even more sad is that there are people out there who make a profit off of stupid shit like this. Ever heard of the "Bum Fights" videos?

Serial killers do it for "sport". Is that how these boys' behavior is being defined?

There are some things that people can grow out of. I wouldn't want to test this one though. They are minors, but that was still a discusting crime; they deserve more than 15 years.

It's cold blooded premeditated murder. They should have been tried as adults and given life without the possibliity of parole, IMO.

I definitely wouldn't go that far. They were 15, drinking and it most likely wasn't premeditated. Premeditated means that they rationally considered the timing and method in order to either increase the likelihood of success, or to evade detection or apprehension. The reasons why I don't believe that they had planned it beforehand were because they were drinking, gave the homeless guy drinks and because it appears that they started out with no intention of killing they guy, but it turned into that. Also, they had bragged all over town, which means they were not being rational about trying to get away with it.

I'm all for trying them as adults and giving them the max sentence for voluntary manslaughter though.

One of them was 15. The other 2 were 16 & 17 respectively. Consumption of alcohol is no excuse for abberant behavior. Their stupididy in bragging about the act is also no excuse. It is sad comfort to know that from now on they are convicted felons.

There are some things that shouldn't be tolerated in this society. The sport killing of the homeless is most definately one of them. The only way that 15 year old should be let of prison is in a pine box, the 16 and 17 year olds should get the noose. If people new that they're actions WILL have that kind of consequences no excuses accepted, they'd think twice about their actions, dammit.

In my opinion these people should be tried as accomplices to assault and possibly even murder.

It's true that these kids were 15, 16 and 17, but you know what? we all were. Did we go out and kill homeless people? of course not. You have to consider too that they will spend the next 15 years in prison (hardly enough for taking a life). What are these little animals going to be like when they get out. I think anyone who thinks they should get less than life in prison or execution should let them come live with them when they get out. That way they can be watched and you can keep them safe.
