I know it happened a couple of days ago but I'm curious about everyone's thoughts on it. I think Marty's a decent coach, but a change was probably best in San Diego. Not factoring in the drama between Marty and the GM, they underachieved in 2005 and couldn't even make it to the AFC title game this year with the most talented team in the NFL. Sometimes, you have to make a change just for the sake of something new.
With that said, the Chargers definitely fucked over Marty by not firing him a couple of weeks ago. Now, every coaching vacancy has been filled and he has no chance at getting a job until next year.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed he doesn't wind up back in Cleveland; we had enough of "Martyball" in the 80s.

From everything I keep reading, it sounds like it's the GM in SD that can't get along with anyone. Anyway, they probably fucked themselves over too because all the good coaches are gone. Wayne Fontes is probably available, though.

With both their offensive and defensive coordinators gone to other teams as head coaches, San Diego has few options. Of course the GM could appoint himself coach, thus insuring that he has a coach who agrees with him about everything.

that pisses me off. we made it through the Dallas coaching search holding our breath. The "experts" all said Dallas was the only team that would have Norv. I figured we were home free and had Norv as our OC for years to come. Then SD hires him? WTF? He was crucial to the development of young A. Smith. Oh well, life goes on.
I will say this though, this is it for Norv, this is his last chance. His past 2 HC jobs have been failures, but he has had excuses. Owner to involved, not enough talent. Well, now he takes over one of the most talented teams in the NFL. If he screws this up, he will never be an HC again.

How do some of these coaches keep getting jobs? Of course we wouldn't have to recycle these guys if teams didn't fire coaches after one season.
