Where have you seen that? I mean actually seen it in person and not just read about it in some mass forward email you got.

It was reported by either CNN or CBS news online. I read the article about it. I dont mean to say that just because they reported it that it is neccessarily true.

Trust me, I have read numerous news stories about this. It is most assuredly true. I hope I don't need to post a link to Morons.org again...

All right! Then lets see here...you must now agree with this simple statement: George W. Bush is a horrible president and should be impeached and tried on the charge of War Crimes.

:D

Yer boy klinton was much worse than Dubya will ever be. Had bubba been POTUS on 9/11, the US would still be negotiating with the taliban & their camels. bubba should have been impeached and placed in prison when we had the chance. Now the best we can do is to do everything humanly possible from keeping his old lady boxed up as the jr senator from NY & out of the White House.

Huh, I'll be damned. It sounded like one of those emails you get from people that like to get riled up about things. I'm with everyone else, that's retarded.

Hutz is happy as long as any referance to god or religion is taken out of the dictionary, in case a poor innocent child might open it up in seacrch of gay gangbang and be defiled by the sight of the ten commandments definition.

I think hi was once slang, so was poor, and gay, and happy, and dictionary probably was too. Slang is what keeps a language alive. Although "fizzle my nizzle" looks to be more of a downward slope back to caveman times. I'm against most of this shit slang to become words in the dictionary, but some adds progress... not to mention slang changes every 5 minutes.

You know, there is a book out there called “Dictionary of American Slang.” The purpose of this book is to keep slang words separate from real words.

All words were created at some point.

Who knows, maybe 20 years down the road, the news reporter on BBC will be giving you the "411", while you listen to your grandkids "diss" each other for being up in the "bling bling"... and you won't even blink twice.

Webster on the other hand will probably be rolling in his grave.

Hmmm... I get this strange feeling that it's not the phrases like this that make people worry the most. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think it's the bootylicious and other "ebonics" words that make most people angry about it.

I don't care who uses what words, but I am upset when slang gets in the dic. Oh well life goes on, maybe in the year 2525 we can all talk like babys. Goo goo gaw gaw

If slang is to be used in literature, assuming the politically correct mathens don't gain total control, it has to be in a dictionary. The words have to have some type of definition, a pronunciation, and a spelling. Who ever thought that the word "nuke" would actually come to describe a microwave oven, what it does, and what you're going to do with that bag of popcorn you're holding?

I read the article and the only one i remember as having "ebonics" origins was the word bootylicious. Maybe you read another article that showed more words. Did you? Or are you making this out to be something it really isnt?

Rather than arguing about the meaning of "word" or "slang", maybe we should just wonder : what is the use of a dictionary ?
It is not supposed to be the listt of correct words, just the list of all the words one can find and wonder about. This is precisely why slang should be in dictionaries.
As a foreigner, whenever I read a text (song or anything) with slang, I am very happy to find it in a dictionary so I can understand the meaning of the sentence.

We have an "official" list of "correct french words" in my country - it is the Dictionary of the French Academy. Nobody uses it. But the most succesful commercial dictionaries all include slang (which leads to same kind of polemic than here).
