Bears in overtime. Colts dominate the first half of the game and the Bears battle back. Think the opposite of the AFC Championship Game.

I am torn. At first I wanted the Colts, and I still do. But, I kind of want the bears to win for this reason:
Parcells left the Cowgirls. They are looking at Niner OC Norvell Turner to become their new HC. That would stunt the growth of young QB Smith, who has progressed well under Turner. Word has it that Jerry Jones is waiting until after the "big game" to decide becasue he wants to interview Bears DC Rivera for the cowgirls HC job. If the bears win, and their defense dominates, there is a better chance Jones will hire Rivera for the job.
Selfish reason I know
anyway, I still say colts win it. They have shed the finesse label in the playoffs by beating Baltimore in a FG contest at thier house, and then by beating the Pats in a shootout at home. They have shown they can win both types of games, while the Bears are more suited to the FG contest.

I gotta admit I'm more excited about the commercials than I am about the game. Too bad I'll probably miss them all because I'm hosting a party and that's my time to re-fill dip bowls and the like. Luckily I can just catch them on Ifilm. I realistically would give it to the Colts, but I'm routing for the Bears.

"Wrex" Grossman isn't having a very good game...they have to rely on him in the second half. Not looking good for the Bears.

The halftime show featuring Prince was much better than I had expected. This far, the commercials haven't been all that great, I'm hoping they'll get better in the 2d half. Beginning of the 3d quarter: 16 / 14 Colts over Bears. Game isn't as close as the score might show - Chicago came out strong, but in the last 18 min of the 1st half they didn't even make a first down.

After the overall chokejob by Grossman, this makes the competition for the starting job a little more interesting...and gives Griese a little hope for next year.

Congratulations to the Colts and Peyton!
A better game than I expected--I'd predicted a Colts blowout.
Still, won a few dollars from my daughter, who hates them. No one else wanted to bet against them!
The halftime show was pretty good, tho I expected to see several deaths by electrocution. The pregame show was bad, with the trapeze people or whoever they were.
My favorite commercial--the Doritoes one with the checkout girl--"Clean up on aisle four".
I know several people who watch this event solely for the commercials--they could care less about the game!

If any team needs Garcia, its the Vikings. Brad Johnson is getting old, Bollinger isn't all that great and Tarvaris Jackson isn't ready for a full season. Garcia would be an improvement over everyone else.

Well well wellllllll....
It feels good, let me tell ya...
very few and far between does the team that you started with and have been behind for years actually win the big one. Especially living in cleveland, the Indians and Cavs never did it like this.
First off Let me talk about the game real fast:
- After the opening kickoff return by Hester, i turned to my friends and said "watch, this is going to be like the OSU-Florida game... we are gonna dominate the rest of the way".. and that's pretty much how it went.
- Manning sure did open up the field and while he did throw an INT, he was on target after that. I can't say enough about Dallas Clark, Marvin Harrison, and Joseph Addai and their good hands.
- The Bears were so afraid of getting beat by the deep ball that they dropped their safties about 20 yards back. That allowed Manning and Addai to play the 2-man game of a Play Action pass right back to Addai underneath for about a guaranteed 6+ yard gain. After all the first downs and the Bears Defense being on the field for so long, they got tired and then it was Dominic Rhodes time. He looked like he was running downhill in the second half.
- "Sexy Rexy" sure choked on a few snaps, i'm glad Ryan Leaf showed up and not Troy Aikman.
- Talk about a tight-rope. That INT run-back by the Colts was about 1/4th of an inch away from being called back.
Now let me talk about Storylines:
- Tony Dungy is probably the main story here. First black coach to win the superbowl (even though people say "there's no such thing as color", we still celebrate when the "first black coach" wins.. thats ironic), But more important Dungy is probably the classiest and nicest guy in the NFL. A solid a devoted christian (and i'm talking about the GOOD christians, not the loud-mouthed political christians), a father, despite what he's had to go through with the suicide of his son last year, he kept it together, remained focused, and succeeded in the ultimate spotlight. I heard he is pondering retirement, and it wouldn't shock me if he did go out on top, even though i doubt he will actually do it.
- Peyton finally won the big one! At Tennessee he NEVER beat florida, Early on he just couldn't beat the patriots.. but now peyton OWNS the patriots, in the regulars season AND in the playoffs, and he's got the ring. You HAVE to say that he is the best QB in the league, hands down. He has the best numbers, and he's won the super bowl. Peyton-haters.. i want to hear your arguments on that one.
- Super Bowl MVP? It probably SHOULDN'T have been Manning, but something tells me either the NFL or the corporate sponsers almost MADE SURE that he got it. Honestly, if you are a Colts fan, i could give a SHIT about who wins the super bowl MVP. But hey props to Peyton. He didn't turn it over like his opponent, Sexy Rexy, did. He stayed focused, and hit lots of 3rd down throws.
- Who SHOULD have gotten the MVP? I would say Co-MVP's to Dominic Rhodes and Joseph Addai, and maybe even the O-line.
But all in all, what a wild ride. I drank so much last night leading up the game, during the game, and especially after the game. I passed out and slept for 14 hours, missed both of my classes today, and am just watching sports program after sports program of Colts coverage, loving every second of it. I love watching Sean Salsbury, the guy who slammed the colts D time and time again say how "great" their Defense is now... ahhhhh

Losing
Super bowls.
They've been to the big party 4 times & came away empty handed. Talk about frustration. The only reason I pay any attention to them is the fact that I grew up in Buffalo, and as such, in all my travels have usually been the only person anyone actually knew from there. Kind of made me a fan by default.

It does pay to stay with a team!
When they're down, it's easy to desert them. But this is when a team needs their fans the most.
I despise the bandwagon fans. They are coming out of the woodwork now in these parts--"fans" who claim to be diehards, yet cannot name but a few players, don't know the history, don't know the schedule, don't know the stats, can't name other teams, and were nowhere in sight when the Colts were struggling.
And we know who they are.....
One of these days ( and I might not be here to see it) but the Browns WILL go to the Super Bowl and they just might win the thing...on that day, I intend to lock myself in my room, just me and the tv. Until then, suffering builds character.
It'll be a special day.

Enjoy it while it lasts. Sooner than you would like, training camp will begin and it will be time to try to get back there again. This time the Colts will have a giant target on their backs because everyone wants to beat the champions. Everyone else will have gotten better draft picks, and re-signing free agents will be difficult because of the salary cap. In the NFL, the child of success is often failure under the current rules.

until they get rid of that putz Sneider they will be the Raiders of the NFC. The Redskins are in the hole salary cap wise, have the highest team payroll, and what do they have to show for it? A dipshit owner who trade a all pro corner for a RB. Everyone knows RB is an easier postion to fill then CB. If you get a true shutdown CB like baily you hold onto him like grim death, you dont trade him for a RB who had a good year. Dan Sneider will be the new Al Davis.

Bailey AND a 2nd round pick for Portis was indeed quite ill-advised.

especially one from Denver.. hell I could run behind that offensive line scheme and get 1000 yards. The browns know all about the "Denver RB padded stats" trend... *cough* Reuben Droughn *cough*...
and the Ravens will probably know it with Mike Anderson in Baltimore.

I hear the name Jeff Garcia thrown around a lot for the Bears, why not the Bucs? Also, I just heard on ESPN David Carrs future in Houston is "uncertain" based on what the Texans do in free agency. carr is a good QB, and younger then Garcia.

I'm not saying it is better not to win. I'm just saying that there is an inevitable letdown. The euphoria is great, like getting drunk on Saturday night. There is an inevitable hangover on Sunday, however.
It was great a decade ago when the Packers won. Favre had his ring, and everything was great. The next year they made it to the game, but lost. Then the next few years they lost in the playoffs every year. Eventually, they fell out of the playoffs as well. Finally, the 4-12 season last year. Now they are on the rise again.
The salary cap almost makes it inevitable that success leads to failure. You win the Super Bowl, and every free agent wants a raise. You can't keep them all if you pay them more, so you keep the starters, and the rest move on. Then you have a team with a great starting line-up but no depth. Injuries take their toll, and you aren't quite as good. Your draft position is late, and the talent declines. Pretty soon it is someone else on top.
The glory years are fleeting. Enjoy it while you can.

I have heard that rumor too. The eagles would be stupid to trade Mcnabb based on one good half season by Garcia. Being a Niner fan, I know Garcia. He can win some games, but in the end he is not the guy to base your franchise on. He is a good journeyman QB though, and perfect for a team that only needs that one piece of the puzzle, like the Bears.

Why would the Eagles trade McNabb? Sure, they had a better record with Garcia; but only because Reid actually ran a balanced attack and utilized Brian Westbrook to the fullest. If Reid called plays like that with McNabb at the helm...watch out NFC.
Bears should just try to get Garcia, have him QB for a year and see if Rex can take over after that.

That's the most absurd thing I've heard in a week. Bears have nothing to offer for McNabb, absolutely nothing. I highly doubt the Eagles will ever trade McNabb. Reid loves McNabb, and his style. Since Reid runs a very aggressive passing attack with McNabb, he won't want to see him go. Sure Garcia got us through the rest of the season and some playoff games, but he's not a franchise qb. At least not any more. If the Bears want him, I'm sure the Eagles will accept a decent trade offer.
