View Full Version : Why Christopher Columbus is not a hero!

Some would say that Columbus was the beginning of the American Holocaust. I will agree with them. Columbus murdered, tortured, raped, robbed, slaved, kidnapped and forced Indians out the their homes and land. Columbus is also accused of genocide, ethnocide, and plunder. I recently read a paper on this and they put it like this " To our American firends, we say that to celebrate the legacy of this muderer is an affront to all Indian peoples, and others who truly understand this history. It would be the same as if German people would celebrate the glorify Adolf Hitler and the rise of facism, and the Nazi holocaust by holding parades throught the Jewish communitites of American and throughtout the world". Columbus and his crew committed millions of crimes.

Columbus did not obtain the amount of gold to send home so that he could impress the King and Queen and his spanish faniaciers. So columbus decided to send them 1200 natives so make up for the gold. Around two hundred Native Americans sent on a voyage across the Atlantic ocean died.

Native americans constantly kept getting treated worse and worse as time went on. Soldiers stabbed Native Americans for sport, slashing and slaming babies heads on rocks. And when Native Americans resisted they were hunted down and then killed.

The Indian population of 10 million that lived north of Mexico when Columbus came would ultimately be reduced to less than a million. Huge numbers of Indians would die from diseases introduced by the whites. A Dutch traveler in New Netherland wrote in 1656 that "the Indians . . . affirm, that before the arrival of the Christians, and before the smallpox broke out amongst them, they were ten times as numerous as they now are, and that their population had been melted down by this disease, whereof nine-tenths of them have died." When the English first settled Martha's Vineyard in 1642, the Wampanoags there numbered perhaps three thousand. There were no wars on that island, but by 1764, only 313 Indians were left there. Similarly, Block Island Indians numbered perhaps 1,200 to 1,500 in 1662, and by 1774 were reduced to fifty-one.

We must write/call are congress and tell them to abolish the legacy and hoilday of Christopher Columbus!

ComputerGuy first off that link is really not need it's a bit immature on your part. Makes me think can your opinions be respected when you post a link like that. These discussions are to be taken serious because it deals with peoples opinions and other things! Secondly I don't understand you seem to be pro-war yet you post something like that. Columbus raped, killed, slaved, pludered, robbed, kidnapped and did many other horrable things to Native Americans. He tried to kill off the entire race. If that is something to be proud then we as society must re-think are ways!

Please detect the sarcasm, I was laying it on thick there...hince why I said if you believe me click here.

Martin Luther King, slept, and raped several women. I feel that his day in remeberence is not justified.
I want that day abolished. Get my drift, he was not as peaceful as some people thought he was.

Columbus did wrong, but I am willing to get rid of October 12th, if you are the third Monday in January.

Once again I completely agree with you CY. Some native Americans from a local reservation here introduced me to the idea of celebrating Native American day on 10/13 while all the others are applauding that criminal. So ever since that day I have celebrated Native American day and now have intentions to make more people aware of the facts surrounding that soundrel.

Well like I said I do not celebrate Martin Luther King's B-day, I observe it as a day for the greatest Southern General, Robert E. Lee.

CY, I findthat you and I have many beliefs in common. I myself have Cherokee blood, and all the time I am reminded of what happend to the Indians. If there are any African-Americans here on the board, please do not take what I say offensive, I am NOT racist, I am just stating what I feel...
I find it unfair that African-Americans have their "own month." Feb. is Black History Month, and I must say that I don't see why they have it. Their ancestors were slaves...yes, I see that...but that was their [i:a0ac24ebb0]ancestors.[/i:a0ac24ebb0] They are a free people now. [i:a0ac24ebb0]They [/i:a0ac24ebb0] weren't slaves...their ancestors were. And while I do see that slavery was unfair and cruel, I find it crueler that my Indian ancestors are now are dying people. Their land was stolen, their people raped and killed...I say it is the Indians that should have their own month. African-Americans say what the whites did to them was unfair..and, while it was, look at what whites did to the Indians. That was even more so.
Christopher Columbus, in my eyes, is no hero. He is a murderer, a rapist, a torturer, a thief....losing Columbus day would would bring no tears to my eyes.

Once again...I am sorry if I have offended anyone..

I have not currently smoked my self retarded. Oh yeah I don't smoke.... I wouldn't be typing in this forum. Probably true but I would give up this stupid forum if it would of change the thousands of years when Indians were raped, killed, slaved, etc... Martin Luther King and Columbus are in to seprete ball fields. Unlike Columbus Martin Luther King never killed are forced anyone to have sex. So basically you cant compare Martin Luther Kings private life to Columbus. Martin Luther King saved people from being killed, raped, and segergated as Columbus did all those things daily. I also dis-like black history month. I think we should have nationality month where we all celebrate our nationality and other nationalitys at the same time so we can all further understand each other and maybe it will bring us closer together.
