I thought it was amazing that one guy said "France" ((!!!WTF!!!)) and they had Australia on the map labelled as *France* and that's where he stuck his pin. Wow. He couldn't even locate the correct fucking continent.
Proposed rule; *before you can support this nation invading another nation it is required that you be able to locate it on a map*.

He never did come up with it.

I do not think that Americans are any smarter or dumber than the man-on-the-street in any other country.........but as Julian Morrow bought up, unlike US citizens, those people in other countries are not residents of the nation that rules the planet.
If the US is going to go around saying it's the most wonderful, baddest, biggest, greatest of everything in the world, (and it most certainly DOES do that) then the people OUGHT to be a bit smarter and better informed than the average citizen of other nations, such as those in the Third World. I worked in an elementary school for 14 years. Language Arts was the main focus of the school, then math. Social Studies was a throw away subjuect. By that I mean, if they didn't have time for all the school work in a day, a lot of the teacher's would skip Social Studies. I don't think our school district was unusual in this, there has been such an emphasis on language arts and math. If a child can't read, they will have a lot of trouble with other subjects. It was just in the last 5 years or so that Social Studies was tested statewide here in MI. Now, that the schools are held accountable, it is no longer a throw away subject. So, hopefully, we'll have more informed citizens at some point. Though, I wouldn't hold my breath.

I in no way think he was trying to make it seem as if everyone in America was that stupid......but the simple fact that you CAN find people who don't know the (very simple) things he asked proves his point that there are a good many extremely uninformed people among the American populace.
Did he interview 300 people to find 30 really stupid ones?
I don't know and neither do you......but I very much doubt it.
My own personal experience with the average person you meet on the street leads me to believe the type of people he found are VERY common.

I would imagine that for that for Mr Morrow, it is impossible to not feel a bit intellectually superior to those --like the American guy who was asked the question-- adults who do not know how many sides a triangle has.
Or who think Jerusalem is a country.
Or who think Utah is a country.

I believe that he meant to convey the thought that although America --as a nation-- is incredibly arrogant, swaggering and imperious and although it exudes a relentless holier-than-thou, more-militarily-powerful-than-thou, more-everything-than thou attitude, many people among its citizenry are clueless dimwits.
And he was correct.
Was it just a tongue-and-cheek "fuck you", or was he being serious?
I hope it was a bit of both. Nations like the U.S., who stride around the globe swinging their big stick and acting as if they are SO much beter than all those "other" little nations (and their people) on the planet desperately need to be told to 'fuck off' once in a while.
Either way, he pissed me off.

Muay Thai gets killed by BJJ and is not as practical for a striking art as Wing Chun Kung Fu (Wing Chun uses cheap moves as well, groin shots for example, which are not taught in Muay Thai). The premise of Akido is to not hurt your opponent (though you can, very easily), so they veer away from some of the more practical moves, and Tae Kwon Do, although a powerful art when standing, is useless if your opponent gets inside your range or if you are brought to the ground.
I do know what I'm talking about. I've studied Wing Chun, Aikido, BJJ, wrestling, and Krav Manga and sparred mainly against my best friend, a black belt in Karate (which he admits is nearly useless) and Aikido. BJJ is by far the most useful art I have ever practiced.

Wing Chun!! *chuckles heartily* Isn't that the art where all the practitioners slap themselves on the back saying how deadly it is, yet no one uses it in sport-fighting?
Muay Thai's strength is it's simplicity. You can execute Muay Thai maneuvers in a real combat situation. Try to remember all that complex Wing Chun bullshido, when a real fight breaks out, and adrenaline forces everything in your mind right out, leaving you in a fight or flight state of mind. The body will naturally fall back on any constantly drilled maneuvers, and this is where the training will take over.
Wing Chun isn't training. It's philosphy, and that's why it's useless in a fight.

Wing Chun primarily deals with strikes and low kicks. The moves are not incredibly difficult; the blocks are all the standards for high, mid and low punches. None of that grabbing their punch crap. If you get in close you switch up to elbows and kneeing, or to a clinch and go from there. I have no clue what you think Wing Chun is, but I think you are probably mixing it up with a different art.

Well, by that logic, nothing's effective 100% of the time. There's always going to be someone bigger, stronger, or better prepared than you are. You don't train for those moments; you fight the odds, and chances are, 95% of the time, I'm gonna win. Knowing that, I don't bank on the fact that I've got 1 in 20 chance of losing, and rightfully so.

Best workout I ever got was while utilizing maui waui techniques. Despite my short stature, I've been successful in bringing the largest competitor down to size. It's not failed yet, even when up against the exotic arts.
Even at age 55 it works, regardless of the age or condition of my competitor.

Hey now, age means nothing. I expect to be out partying well into my 40s and 50s :)

Check this one out. It's a pretty damn big NFL player (not a martial artist though) vs a BJJ practitioner.

The NFL player did pretty darn well. He looks like he did some wrestling before.

Yea, I was impressed. He is like twice the size of the other guy though.

Big idiots make a lot of noise when they hit the ground.

That's certainly true, however the sound of them hitting the ground is nothing compared to the whine of a little man begging the big idiot not to punch him. Now that's entertainment, trust me....
