"Bully for the Democrats...They did what we didn't have the guts to do when it matters."

- Republican Rep. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), January 5, 2007

Good for them! (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070121/ap_on_go_co/pelosi_in_charge)It didn't get much airtime in the corporate media but the Democrats passed some significant legislation in their first 100 hours.

But in my opinion, they are nowhere near finished.

Pelosi's initial agenda, completed Thursday, included measures with wide popular support: increasing the minimum wage, broadening stem cell research, allowing government bargaining on Medicare drug prices, cutting student loan costs, putting in place terrorism-fighting recommendations from the Sept. 11 commission and rolling back energy company tax breaks.

All of those are a good start, but they need to do a heck of a lot more to save this country.

I agree that there is more to be done dharmabum, but at least these people are making SOME small nod in the direction of doing things that will be of benefit to the People.

Those issues mentioned above (with the exception of the "terrorism-fighting" malarkey; this country could bring an abrupt end to terrorism tommorrow if they would stop killing Muslims and occupying their lands with unwanted military bases) are extremely important and have needed assertive and progressive action taken on them for a long while.

At least government is finally moving, albeit slowly, in more of a positive direction.

The HR passed it. To the best of my knowledge nothing passed in the house has been passed by the senate. It's all mere posturing.

Unfortunately it wouldn't be that simple. Terrorism is just a tactic. It would still be around along with Islamic fundamentalism but terrorism by Islamic fundamentalists would definately decrease significantly. As the population of the world continues to increase, violent conflicts over the finite resources of this planet are inevitable. "Terrorism" (as a tactic) is probobly going to be around for a long, long time to come. There will always be a need for an "enemy" so long as Fox News viewers who treat politics like sports are around.

You must not be watching/reading the correct media.

Ha Ha you are a funny guy Dharm!!

The Democrats did not get the 6 things passed.

They also stopped that 100 clock to work on other things. I guess they will

run that clock again when they move back the the remaining topics.

OK, suffice it to say I've been getting updates on the first 100 hours in my paper and on NPR.

I know I can find stuff if I search for it, but I think you know that wasn't my point.

I realize that, but having it delivered to my front door and come through my car speakers isn't exactly "searching" for it.

And of course you probobly realize that most people do not get the particular paper you do or listen to the particular radio programs you do.

Point being, I never said it was never reported.

I said it "didn't get much airtime".
