Some pretty cool songs on their. Personally I kept thinking a lot should have been higher up on the list. But it wasn't about my personal tastes. Overall I would say you're prety well rounded music fan.

Quite a list. A great many I don't recognize, but you've got the classics well represented. If anything, some of the artists left out surprised me as much as some of the choices made.

Kashmir, Riders on the Storm, Bad Moon a Rising and Sounds of Silence are on my top 10 list. There are many on there I have never heard as we are a few generations apart...But there are some really nice choices there.

Well Lib, you gotta understand im 21 years old, with quite a bit of angst left over from my teen years :) But yeah, I love the old stuff as much as the new. In fact I like more older stuff than newer. If I hadnt used only 2 songs per artist, my list would be nothing but The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Stones, Led Zep, and U2 probably, or at least they would make up 50 out of the 100, or close to that. Some of the new music is good though, in my opinion. It rubs me a little different than the older stuff, and I can relate to it better. What I think is wierd, is when im like 40 or 50, will I be listeing to todays music, or todays old music still? lol.

I guess there is a moment when you'll stop listening or paying any attention to newer stuff, unless they are somehow related to that kind of music you did and probably still like. you're way younger than my own kids (29/27/27), but one of my sons got such a hang for Deep Purple that I just couldn't believe it. Anyway, you're right.
I kind of stop listening to new stuff when that crap called RAP (better known as CRAP) came around, or that Seattle sound (grunge or whatever it is called), the kind of noisy stuff I listened before was surpassed by something a lot more noisier and my ears just couldn't take it anymore, tried to decipher what was in it... Now, except for Nirvana's "All Apologies" and probably the unplugged version of it... or Blind Melon's "No Rain"..., I couldn't find anything else I would care about... (well there must be a few others of that period) but hey!, today these two songs are already "oldies", just can't believe that they are already around 15 years old. Whatever came after the early or mid 90's I really have no knowledge of it... If the old guys record something I probably would look for it, such as any new album from Eric Clapton or anyone from the 60's or 70's. As for the Stones, they should've stopped recording long long time ago..., and pack up for good.

Ive never been fond of rap, 98% of it is, well not good. As for grunge, its almost the same way, except a few really good bands did come out of that era, so maybe more like 75% of it kinda sucks. But yeah, I was raised on the old stuff, my parents listened to it all, so it grew on me. But I learned to like the new stuff as well, because like I said, I can relate to most of it. I mean I've got A Day In The Life by the Beatles (greatest band ever) immedietly followed by AFI, which is my favorite contemporary band, they just continue to get better with each new CD, which is rare these days. And yeah that new(er) stuff the Stones put out sucks, lol.

Rap is so overrated.. its good for one thing: to dance to. People who try to center their lives around it and passionately obsess over it are idiots.. Why can't Rap be just what it is.. party music.
Grunge Era? it gets a bad name because of Nirvana and Hole and all of those screamy winey bands... But Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, and Alice In Chains all came out around then.. and they are some of my fav bands.
Actually.. everyone credits Nirvana for kicking the hair bands out the door.. but anyone with any sense knows it was Metallica who not only kicked them out, but stomped them to death and then drove over them 5 times with a car. I don't get why Nirvana got so much love in the history books.

Dance? ... Can't even follow that annoying beat...
Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots.
I do like them (but just a very few songs from each). They kind of reminded me some heavy stuff from the 60's and early 70's.
Nirvana and Metallica.
Like I said, from Nirvana just one song (All Apologies). And the same goes for Metallica, one song (Nothing Else Matters)... The rest of their output goes direct to my trash can.

Naww, metallica is overall a good band, I have to give them their props. And Nirvana too. As for rap, Decka is right, the only time I listen to it is when im at the club. I dont listen to it on my own.

Oh and Evak, while music IS mostly personal taste.. there IS an overlying structure to say that some bands are better musically or more successful than others... and i think it is safe to say that U2 are an overall better band than the GRATEful dead... but hey there's no shame in not being better than U2, not many bands are.

If they suck so bad then how come they can make claim to the best band on the planet? Not many can...
They are a top tier band, whether you like them or not... AND they have the musical awards to back them up.
I really don't need to have anyone on here change their minds or like U2... its not a big deal. I think that you just have to "accept" that U2 are musical legends.. and if you want to go shot-for-shot they probably have MANY more "millions" of fans than the Grateful Dead... and many more grammies too.
My it's amazing what smoking the reefer can get you...

Why you so down on the 'Dead? No, they probably didn't have the impact of U2 but they're still one helluva party band with fans everywhere. A damn tight band with plenty trips over the many years of sold out concerts almost everywhere they went. Enjoy it all while you can!

I am pretty "down on the dead"... none of their music is really any good. I have always noticed that all of their hardcore fans stereotypically smell really bad, wear tye-dye, and smoke LOTS of pot... its kind of like a nice little hippy cult. I just think that if The Grateful Dead was all about the music, and not about the pot, they wouldn't be much of anything.... I'm not telling fans to not listen to their music.. i'm just giving my opinion.
And as for anything about U2.. i didn't bring them into the discussion.. Evak did. However, at least i give reasons for not liking the Dead.. he pretty much just wants to say whatever band i like sucks.. or something like that. So don't look at me on that one.

Did it ever occur to the snobs in this thread (Evak) that people should just listen to whatever the hell music they want to, regardless of what others think of it? Christ, there is no objectively "good" or "bad" music. There is no objective scale on which to rank anything. So listen to what you like, and pay no attention to the holier-than-thou types.

There is a reason that jam bands have such a following, not only for those reasons, but it gives people like ES an excuse to smoke weed in public.
