Come now, Evak. If it sold a lot of tickers, then there must have been a lot of us who liked it, maybe more than those of you who didn't. Just because it didn't suit your taste doesn't mean it's a disgrace. You just probably like other movie types which isn't bad at all.

Titanic - after watching a few hundred hours of televeision shows over the years all speculating on what happened on that ship's voyage the movie generated absolutely no interest for me. Apparently many others felt the same way. Not the first time an academy award winning movie has been terrible, certainly not the last.

I really wasn't expecting this thread to be something other than what it is supposed to be but reading thrugh the latest posts here certainly is an "eye-opener". I wonder if those who criticize have actually seen/watched the object of their cynism, errr... criticism, i.e., the movie?
I watched The Thomas Crown Affair (that starred former 007 Pierce Brosnan) and I thought I wasted good money on it. That is my opinion after watching the movie.

I don't.
It is a disgrace to Hollywood that it made the most money of any movie, and an even bigger disgrace that it won the most Oscars.
It’s probably an urban legend, but I overheard that someone went to see Titanic, and during the previews mentioned to their friends about the ship sinking. The person in the front row stood up, very angrily, and told them how rude it was to discuss the ending of a movie that they have already seen.

I was never a fan of the awards, but after they dismissed Pulp Fiction, which literally stayed the entire year at the shows, with the most over heard comment of: I had to go see it again, because I missed that part. It just made you wonder if Jules wasn’t wrong about whom the tyranny of evil men just was. (Ok, evil is way too harsh of a word, but I can’t butcher the quote.)

Every big Star Wars fan says this. They are just bitter. Don't pay them attention.
Yes, but give credit where credit is due, it’s not just a big Star Wars fan; it’s a humping Star Wars fan. Actually, I can’t say that he’s a big Star Wars fan, in light of this one guy we ran into at a Renaissance festival. For those who have not been, it’s a fair with a theme of the European Renaissance, and the staff dresses time appropriate, as well as a number of the guest. Mostly though, I think people go because it’s appropriate to call your server a bar winch when asking for another beer, women for the guys in tight pants, and guys for the women who were those things that make their breast, well, stand out. Anyway, we’re walking around and a storm trooper walks by, in fact, it very much looked like Evakian, only he wasn’t humping, well, humping in the sense of trudging, which I think is the only thing Storm Troopers are probably know for. The second or third time we ran into him, I tried to strike up a conversion, but true to form, he didn’t talk.
Anyway, that was a BIG Star Wars fan. And someone later, did point out the obvious, that Star Wars wasn’t a future movie, but a past one.

Hey, I watched The Lake House a couple of times and I think it's cute. Keannu Reves makes for an excellent uhg, "dream boy" character. That's not to say I watch every single one of his movies, just some actually. I fell asleep watching the second installment of The Matrix so I didn't bother iwth the rest of it.
I also consider Casablanca and When A Man Loves a Woman to be on my list of faves. Along with a few others, besides the initial ten I submitted here.

Rock on, OD. Real big fan aren't ya?
Of course. It is my favorite film.
Titanic has a great story (that opens viewers to the emotional tragedy of Titanic through a cliche', yet believeable and heart-warming love story), great cinematography (IE: when the ship sinks is some of the best filming/shots I've seen in a movie), wonderful music that sets the tone of each part of the film perfectly, wonderful acting and great attention to detail in regards to costumes/sets and the facts they shared throughout the film.
This movie is totally deserving of all its success and glory. However, due to its extreme popularity people will try and appear different and try and appear more "unique" and appear to have more "street credibility" by trashing this wonderful film.

Geez, OD. Sounds to me like you can write a review. hehehehe... Not bad at all. I don't know about cinematography but I sure do remember 1998 as the Titanic year. Lots of it on cable TV and on magazines. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet became "big" stars because of it, although I distinctly rember he didn't get any Oscars. And, uhm... theme song was the longest running on MTV's charts that year and was the number one for that year. How can I forget? My HS friends did outrageous things just to get to the Valentine screening of that movie. And my lil iss couldn't stop singing My Heart Will Go On. So, there you go.

Hooray for "The Patriot"--great movie.
"No, my sons were better men."
This movie caused quite a stir in England when it came out. Critics said it wrongly depicted how cruel the Redcoats were.
They were right. The Redcoats were actually worse than depicted.
PS. Evak, I wouldn't call "Titanic" garbage. They did a good job with the sets and in recreating actual events and personages on board for the voyage.
Since the Titanic story remains one of the biggest news stories of all time, no wonder it was so popular. This has absolutely nothing to do with Jack and Rose, who never existed and whose story has been told in countless other movies---poor guy, rich girl, poor guy dies bravely, etc, etc....
