School officials said there is additional information about the case they cannot disclose because it would be unfair to Ryan.
They should disclose anything they have since there is such a big hoopla now.

I suppose it's human nature. Something really really bad happens like Columbine. So we demand elected officials do stuff. While putting in policies to try and handle these situations, the media jumps on any oversights, thereby creating a hostile atmosphere in the public that the elected officials aren't doing enough. In order to counter that, they end up going so far over the edge of sanity the innocent then get hurt. I got bad news people, this is the real world and bad things happen. You can pass all the laws you want, kids will still find ways to bring weapons to schools. And to make matters worse, this kid sounds like he actually didn't do anything wrong. Weird.

So do I, but unless the things they aren't revealing include the boy threatening someone with the pellet gun, or something like that, I find this completely ridiculous.

Wow, I'm glad that when I brought a knife to school (fourth grade?), they were slightly less psycho and only suspended me for two days. I was glad, because I got to spend those two days looking at ALL the exhibits in the Museum of Natural History! :)

From the article, I think what they are not saying is that the kid considered keeping the gun. And after a while, he turned it in. I think that's why they expelled him but do not want to push it, since he did the right thing eventually. And IF that is the case, then he has been expelled with a tutor and that is acceptable or would be to me as a parent....and IF that is the case, his mother is a fool.

He turned it in 10 minutes later. Maybe he had to go to the bathroom or something on his way?
I know that if my friend and I found it, it would probably take us at least 5-10 minutes debating what to do. And now that I've read this article, I'd probably just leave it there...

I wonder if it would have been any different, had the kid just told someone where the gun was at and showed them, instead of actually bringing the gun into the office.

Got to wonder why the parents aren't screaming "racism" over this.
