Well, if you could go back in time and witness any historical event, what would it be.

Probably Christ's crusifixion for me. Im not even a Christian, but it would be an amazing thing to see what really happened.

For me;

1. Christ's birth.

2. John F. Kennedy's assasination (standing right behind Oswald in the School Book Depository, observing)

3. Christ's crucifiction.

4. Hitler's final hours.

5. Audrey Hepburn's deflowering.

6. Martin Luther King's 'I have a dream speech'

7. Marilyn Monroe's final 24 hours, and six hours beyond that.

8. Standing in the Oval Office when the conversation between Richard Nixon and HR Haldeman took place on 20 June 1972. (The conversation that later became an 18 and 1/2 minute blank space on the official White House tapes.)

9. Having a beer (or several beers) with Chuck Yeager, right after he broke the sound barrier.

10. And then going back and having another go at Audrey Hepburn.

Oops.

Sorry, you said just one, and I greedily took ten.

The signing of the surrender papers by the Japanese on the USS Missouri

The first shots at Concord 1775

The Titanic as she sailed away

When Cornwallis sent his aide over to surrender at Yorktown

The winter at Valley Forge ( my 5 x grandpa, Ephraim Kibbe, Sgt Continental Army, New Jersey, spent the winter of 1777 at this encampment)

I would have liked to have seen Alexander on Bucephalus, and the Phaerohs in all their glory.

1. My own birth. (It would remind me as nothing else could of just how much I have grown and changed over the years. As I get closer to the end of my life I become more interested in the beginning of it.)

2. Christ's crucifixion. (Other than His resurrection the most important event in human history.)

3. The first meeting between a Neanderthal and a Cro-Magnon. (Was it peaceful, antagonistic or neutral?)

4. The building of the pyramids. (How did they do it and who did the supervising and the actual work?)

5. The Coronation of Charlemagne (The birth of Europe as an entity.)

6. The death of Marilyn Monroe (Did the Kennedys have anything to do with it?)

7. The first landing on in the Americas of a foreign explorer. (Was it the Vikings, the Chinese of the Irish>)

8. The Battle of Hastings (The battle that decided England would be part of Europe rather than an isolated island nation.)

9. The assassination of Julius Caesar. (Was he surprised or was it part of a greater scheme by a man who knew he was dying and who used his own assassination as a way to insure Rome would become what he envisioned?)

10. The formal British surrender after the American Revolutionary War. (This not only freed America but also freed the British to concentrate on their other areas of expansion such as India and the islands of the southern Atlantic.)

The building of the Pyramids (obvious reasons, most already explained by Frogger)

The Trojan War (For centuries it was believed to be a myth. Then whammo they find troy. I would like to see the war that has and still captures the imagination of many.)

Rather than the birth or crucifixtion of Christ. I would rather see some specific events in his life. (Most notably when he went on a rampage in the temple at the vendors doing business there. Or perhaps when sometime when he was like 8 or so, just to see if he was divine then or just another brat.)

To visit Thomas Edison and witness the moments that gave us the lightbulb and later witness the progression of the moving picture.

The wright brothers and their famous flight.

I like what Frogger mentioned about the Coronation of Charlemagne, that would be cool.

I would also like to be witness to the Council of Nycene (I know that aint spelled right) to see just exactly how they selected and created the books of the bible. (how much was done out of earnest religious feeling and how much was out of politics)

So many others, I just can't pick one.

Oddly enough, despite my love of history, I can't think of any event I would like to witness.

You'll need to attend the Synod of Hippo and Carthage, not the Council of Nicaea.

Constantine (and the Council of Nicaea, for that matter) had virtually nothing to do with the forming of the canon(Bible). It was not even discussed at Nicea. The council that formed an undisputed decision on the canon took place at Carthage in 397 (60 years after Constantine's death).

http://www.gotquestions.org/Constantine-Bible.html

At the Synod of Hippo (393), and again at the Synod of 397 at Carthage, a list of the books of Holy Scripture was drawn up. It is the Catholic canon. The latter synod, at the end of the enumeration, added, "But let Church beyond sea (Rome) be consulted about confirming this canon".

The First Council of Nicaea was to decide the divinity of Christ and address Arianism. What they would later label as heresy.

I would love to see the asteroid impact 65 million years ago in the Yucatan. I would also want to witness the flooding of the Black Sea when the glaciers melted. There are many, many other things I would love to witness. I would love to see what happened to Judge Crater for example. It would also be interesting to see what happened to D.B. Cooper when he landed. It would also be very interesting to go back and browse the library at Alexandria.

The earth as it formed. In fast forward, I'm too lazy to sit through all of that.
That and the library at Alexandria.

1. Christ's birth.

I have the sneaking suspicion that it was far less glamorous than the movies and stories make it out to be.

My bad, somehow I had it in my head the council did decide the first collection of books that were later adopted by the bible. I really need to start looking at less porn and reading more. :slap:

After that I guess I would like to fly in a helicopter over the Kursk salient 1943 and watch the larget tank battle in history unfold, as long as we didnt get shot down that is.

Speaking of great historical sports events, it would have been nice to see the Ice Bowl--in person. I did see it on tv. Or, even more thrilling, Coach Knight "tossing" the chair across the floor. Laughs galore for all.

Be sure to dress warmly. Also, please film it while you're there. Did you know that there is no iknown film of the game, because apparently no one thought to save it. There isn't even a tape of the radio broadcast.
