Ok not sure how many of you are into anime. I love anime and foreign films.
My fav's are cowboy bebop, Last exile, and so many more. Ghilbli studio's makes some of the best anime. For foreign films I am into the Korean subs. My all time favorite is Memories of Murder. It is about the first Korean serial killer. The killer has not been caught to this day.
Also another good one is 3-iron. It is a bit odd but kind of sucked me and and I couldn't stop watching it.

Well OK so if you all want this is the place to talk anime and foreign film. Share if you wish I am always looking for a good one. I also have a fair collection if any one has questions and I can help hehe.

Anime and manga can be very good, but I sometimes get intimidated by the massive size of the series at times, so don't bother getting involved. The shorter series with limited plotlines that run for a short time are more accessible. But I get hounded to get involved in Naruto and One Piece all the time. Gack.

I agree I have the last Exile box set 7 DVDs and for me I like the one movie ones. Castle in the sky, Cat came back, Howl's moving castle, totoro, but there are a few that I don't mind the series on like cowboy bebop and ghost in the shell. They are some of the series ones and are pretty good. I have tried to read a few manga books but was kind of lost.
I personally have never watched Naruto or one piece.

My brother reads manga everyday and stays up to date on his favorite anime. I personally stick to seeing anime movies, no shows, makes it easier.

Big manga series might seem intimidating, but most of the time you can go through them quickly. (exception would be the wordy GTO, which is one of the very best series out there; probably Vagabond would take time to read too) I would say a good pace would be 3 books in 2 hours. Assuming you are not just flipping through the pages. So in one evening you can knock out close to 10 books. The longer series are usually long for good reason, and they are usually the most rewarding to read.

I also recommend Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece. If you google online, you will be able to download episodes (translated by amatuers but IMO better than published versions) that are concurrent with Japanese release. Naruto, for example, can be downloaded online up to vol. 37 while in the bookstore it's up to around...12? One Piece can be downloaded up to about episode 430 now, in the bookstore you get up about episode 120 at this time.

For more mature works, I highly recommend Blade of the Immortal, Berserk, Battle Royale, GTO, Love Hina, and Vagabond. Samurai Kyo is very popular, but I would not recommend it.

One Piece is hands down the best manga series I have ever read.

About animes. In my experience 90% of the animes based on manga originals are much inferior to the manga. Naruto animes have been somewhat decent, the quality is high and polished, but these are plagued by fillers and an extremely slow pace. The voice actors used in English versions are very weak compared to the Japanese originals, additionally a lot of dialogues are dumbed down or made very-young-viewer-friendly in the English dubbed version, so if you can get subtitled episodes, that's the way to go. The difference is tremendous.

Inuyasha is one of the view titles that has better anime version than manga version. It's worth checking out. Subtitled episodes are readily downloadable. I'm not too into sci-fi stuff, but Cowboy Bebop is also decent.

Would you say that Bleach is better as a manga or as an anime?

I haven't seen a Bleach anime episode yet, so I can't say. I do have manga downloads up to the very newest episode though. At about 255.

I like the anime better. I like how it is made and I do agree I hate the silly voice overs. For me I like watching the subs over listening to them talk and see their mouths move differently from the words. That is my biggest beef with any foreign film that has English voice overs.
One thing I do find is some of the anime borders on soft porn. It is interesting to me that they don't see the nudity as nudity in a cartoon but they don't use it a lot in real movies (with people).
I have never saw Bleach. I have heard of it and it is all the hype.

I hate Naruto, and dislike One Piece. I've always been a Gundam fan and my favourite anime of all time is Gundam Seed. Amazing series. Watched all 50 episodes with only a few short breaks to sleep. Haven't gotten through the sequel to it since I haven't found time with all of my friends. I also highly recommend Full Metal Alchemist and Cowbow Bebop. Rurouni Kenshin is also really good. Gundam Wing extremely good as well, but it's more classic and I don't consider it as good as Seed. Then there's 8th MS Squad(Gundam) which is really short, so not as in depth as Seed but lots of quality for so little time. Classic anime movie: Akira.

You would be a very unpopular kid in Japan.

Not entirely true. Naruto is just an anime with no definitive finish. Already unatractive in my book. There are over a dozen Gundam SERIES. Gundam Seed and it's sequel are far far higher rated than Naruto, the first is one of the top rated animes of all time. Popularity wise, Gundam wins hands down. Not only Gundam, but also what Gundam spawned, Mech suits are everywhere.

Blib is not unpopular here already?
This I cannot argue.
