View Full Version : Theme song for your life?

Well if you were to pick a theme song for your life, what would it be?

Personally, I'd have to get back to you on that one, but I thought it'd be an interesting question to ask...

Oh shit, there's a lot of em... And depending on my mood they would always be different... Let's see if I can pick a few good ones, each for a different facet of my life.
Guns N Roses- "Mr. Brownstone"
Lynyrd Skynyrd- "Freebird"
Johnny Cash- "Hurt"
Social Distortion- "Ball and Chain"
Red Hot Chili Peppers- "Soul To Squeeze"
Deep Purple- "Highway Star" (Not for the meaning on this one, just because it's a cool song that I could see playing in the definitive scene of the movie of my life...)
Sublime- "Burritos"
Olivia Newton-John- "Hopelessly Devoted to You"
The Runaways- "Cherry Bomb"

Wow, that was a lot... Well I think that's pretty much the definitive list. I could find more to add to my life's soundtrack but those would be the necessary ones.

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot Steppenwolf- "Born to Be Wild" and Gretchen Wilson- "Redneck Woman"

Mad World by Tears for Fears always touched me, although I prefer the Gary Jules cover of it.

Definitely the cover. I like that song too... I thought I had enough sad songs on my list though :-P

Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt is way better than NIN's. Reznor said that the song "isn't mine anymore." Moving piece.

Oh yeah. Johnny just had the right voice to convey all that despair... I'm going to name one of my sons John Cash after him :D

I object... While Reznor may have done a class act and acknowledged Cash's contributions... i still prefer the original, by far.

As for "theme songs for your life".. its a big overdramatic and egotistical to try to tie yourself to people's music... i would say my theme songs are the songs that i myself wrote and recorded... because those are truely mine.

You speak heresy.

Why is there a need to criticize the game if you, in the same sentence, participate? It is like coming to someone's house for a meal and complain about the atrocious cooking but still eat everything.:slap:

Uhmm I have to agree with the happy Stormtrooper.

Personally: I can't really decide. Songs that have touched me on a truly personal level and make me want to do better. . . I don't know.

Judas Priest: "You've Got Another Thing Coming!"
Charlie Daniels: "In America"
Billy Joel: "She's Got A Way!" (coincedentally my wedding song)
Nazareth: "Hair Of The Dog"

Those are the four that immediately come to mind.

Please list the artists and songs that i said were "theme songs for my life"?...

There.

You missed the point...

i'm not trying to tattoo my name on some other artist's forehead by saying they are on my "theme song for my life" list...

Since the songs are mine... im not doing what i first claimed, which is being overdramatic and egotistical...

hell, i'm being overdramatic MYSELF by looking THIS DEEP into such an innocent little thread.

I completely agree with Decka on that one. NIN's original version has a certain vindictiveness and resentment to it, whereas Cash's version is pure depression.

As for my theme song, I would probably choose "Lean on Me." On a different day, I might choose "Ooh La La" by The Faces, "Fight Test" by Flaming Lips, or "You Gotta Be" by Desree.

Yeah, I also like NIN's version better.

To me it seems like Reznor is way more into the song.

This seems to be my song and my life right now

"It´s all over but the crying"
By Garbage

everything you think you know baby
is wrong
and everything you think you had baby
is gone

certain things turn ugly when you think too hard
and nagging little thoughts change into things you can’t turn off
everything you think you know baby
is wrong

it’s all over but the crying
fade to black I’m sick of trying
took too much and now I’m done
it’s all over but the crying

do you really think I’m made of stone baby?
c’mon!
that we only love the things we own?
baby you’re wrong

certain things just happen when you make no plans
and love can really tear you up and it can break you down
everything you think you know baby
is wrong

it’s all over but the crying
fade to black I’m sick of trying
took too much and now I’m done
It’s all over but the crying

baby we’re done

if I could I would
I’d change everything
cause I can’t forget you though you don’t believe me
now I can’t walk back
I can’t leave behind
where does it go all the light that we had?

everything you think you know baby
is wrong
and everything you think you had baby
is gone

baby we’re done

"Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)" by Styx

Written by Tommy Shaw
Lead Vocals by Tommy Shaw

Give me a job, give me security
Give me a chance to survive
I'm just a poor soul in the unemployment line
My God, I'm hardly alive
My mother and father, my wife and my friends
I see them laugh in my face
But I've got the power, and I've got the will
I'm not a charity case

I'll take those long nights, impossible odds
Keeping my eye to the keyhole
If it takes all that to be just what I am
I'm gonna be a blue collar man

Make me an offer that I can't refuse
Make me respectable, man
This is my last time in the unemployment line
So like it or not I'll take those

Long nights, impossible odds
Keeping my back to the wall
If it takes all that to be just what I am
I'm gonna be a blue collar man

Keeping my mind on a better life
Where happiness is only a heartbeat away
Paradise, can it be all I heard it was
I close my eyes and maybe I'm already there

Say Anything (Else) Lyrics

And baby don't follow their lead
'cause you'll never know
Just how the story ends, or how the story goes
And you are so confused
And baby it's just like you
to say anything else

Whenever you get this way
Just getting up for the let down,
Mmm here they come and YES they're here to stay
Just getting up for the let down

Oh I'm here to say that you're the star you wanna be
Just open up and look inside and you will see, yeah

Someday you'll sing it out loud
One day this will make you proud
Whoa oh, "I know..."
Whoa oh

And baby don't follow their lead
'cause you never know
Just how the story ends, or how the story goes
And you are so confused,
And baby its just like you
to say anything else

It's time for you to understand
Stop getting up for the let down
Oh, who you are is not up to them
Stop getting up for the let down

And I'm here to say that you're the star you wanna be
Just open up and look inside, you will see

Someday you'll sing it out loud
One day this will make you proud
Whoa oh, "I know..."
Whoa oh

Someday you'll sing it out loud
One day this will make you proud
Whoa oh, "I know..."
"I know..." is never good enough.

So say what you want
(You know I'm wasting all my time)
Gotta mean it when you say what you want
(You're only safe when you're alone)
And everybody's on your mind
Saying anything to get you by

And so to get what you want
(You know I'm wasting all my time)
You gotta mean it
(You're only safe when you're alone)
And when you say what you want
Your wasting everybody's time
Your saying anything that gets you by

It's not, not, not gonna get you,
g-gonna get you by

Some day you'll sing it out loud
One day this will make you proud
Whoa oh, "I know..."
"I know..." is never good enough

Someday you'll sing it out loud
One day this will make you proud
Whoa oh, "I know..."
Whoa oh
Whoa oh, "I Know..."
"I know..." is never good enough

(part 1)

Stood still on a highway
I saw a woman
By the side of the road
With a face that I knew like my own
Reflected in my window
Well she walked up to my quarterlight
And she bent down real slow
A fearful pressure paralysed me in my shadow
She said 'son what are you doing here
My fear for you has turned me in my grave'
I said 'mama I come to the valley of the rich
Myself to sell'
She said 'son this is the road to hell'
On your journey cross the wilderness
From the desert to the well
You have strayed upon the motorway to hell

(part 2)
Well I'm standing by a river
But the water doesn't flow
It boils with every poison you can think of
And I'm underneath the streetlight
But the light of joy I know
Scared beyond belief way down in the shadows
And the perverted fear of violence
Chokes the smile on every face
And common sense is ringing out the bellc
This ain't no technological breakdown
Oh no, this is the road to hell
And all the roads jam up with credit
And there's nothing you can do
It's all just bits of paper flying away from you
Oh look out world, take a good look
What comes down here
You must learn this lesson fast and learn it well
This ain't no upwardly mobile freeway
Oh no, this is the road
Said this is the road
This is the road to hell

Probably several depending on mood.

Man on the Moon - REM
Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon - Neil Diamond
Highway to Hell - AC/DC
Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
Piano Man - Billy Joel (more appropriate when I am older though)
New Slang - The Shins (if you've ever lived in a small town...)

I always think about America by Simon Garfunkel when traveling on the road.

For a while I listen to Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top every morning when I arrived at work.

Too much fucking over time at work due to moronic management. :) Course I am management so um, in this particular case, partially the cause of my own fucking demise so to speak. And it ain't over yet. I have 4 more weeks of hell. :D

Hehehe...I am fucking Catholic, I work for Jews. Their passover is over, so to speak... :D Well, okay perhaps pagan would be a more accurate description of my belief system now... I've evolved or devolved depending upon one's opinion... Happy Easter!!! I am gonna sleep the whole day away.

How was your trip...gotta a sun burn do ya? It's snowing here like a bitch. But I drove my new SUV to work on the shitty roads and I am in love with my new vehicle. Course, said vehicle is now one of the reasons I have to work OT. :D Sad shit ain't it?

Flirtin' with Disaster, by Molly Hatchet

I'm travelin' down the road,
I'm flirtin' with disaster.
I've got the pedal to the floor,
My life is running faster.
I'm out of money, I'm out of hope,
It looks like self destruction.
Well how much more can we take,
With all of this corruption.

Been flirtin' with disaster,
Ya'll know what I mean.
And the way we run our lives,
It makes no sense to me.
I don't know about yourself or,
What you want to be - YEAH.
When we gamble with our time,
We choose our destiny.

Chorus:
I'm travelin' down that lonesome road.
Feel like I'm dragging a heavy load.
Yeah! I've tried to turn my head away,
Feels about the same most every day.

Speeding down the fast lane,
Playin' from town to town.
The boys and I have been burnin' it up,
Can't seem to slow it down.
I've got the pedal to the floor,
Our lives are runnin' faster,
Got our sights set straight ahead,
But ain't sure what we're after.

Flirtin' with disaster,
Ya'll know what I mean.
You know the way we run our lives,
It makes no sense to me.
I don't know about yourself or,
What you plan to be - Yea!!
When we gamble with our time,
We choose our destiny.

Chorus:
Yeah!! We're travelin' down that lonesome road.
Feel like I'm dragging a heavy load.
Don't try to turn my head away,
I'm flirtin' with disaster every day.

Flirtin' with disaster, baby,
Ya'll know what I mean.
You know the way we run our lives,
It makes no sense to me.
I don't know about yourself or,
What you plan to be - Yea!!
When we gamble with our time,
We choose our destiny.

Chorus:
Yeah!! We're travelin' down that lonesome road.
