Get off it, Frannie. You're acting like an ass. No one is advocating killing smokers. All that is being asked is that you don't share your disgusting and dangerous habit with we non-smokers.
Frogger would know more about the danger part of the equation more than anyone here, Frannie.

1. If someone was smoking in the smoking section at a table next to children, I think perhaps the parents of the children might have something to answer for, don't you?
2. I agree. That's why I go outside/elsewhere.
1. There weren't always seperate sections, and even when they were first tried, twenty feet of air space is not a buffer between smokers and non-smokers. The entire restaurant was still a smoking section.

2. I believe that you do that. But our laws aren't written with our most responsible citizens in mind.
I don't agree with some people here, but I think many of them are responsible enough to be trusted with a firearm (Ivan scares me a little though). Why can't everyone have a gun? Because some among us would screw up badly with it.
The fact that you are considerate with your smoking is not relevant as to whether or not these laws should have been written. That is why I keep repeating that your argument should be with the inconsiderate smokers and not with the people who pushed for these laws.

The smoker-haters and their ilk have many demands. Here are just a few:

• Smokers shouldn’t be allowed to smoke indoors (this is already true of the large majority of work places, bars, and restaurants)

Correct. You have a point that those who oppose smoking are against smokers being allowed to smoke inside. Smokers shouldn’t be allowed to smoke indoors where other people allergic to smoke or small children who do not need to be inhaling smoke would be affected.

• Smokers shouldn’t be allowed to smoke outdoors because prissy passersby might smell something they consider “icky” for a second or two

Here you are flat out lying.

Neither I nor any person I have ever known or heard about has tried in any way to make it unlawful for smokers to *smoke outside* away from non-smokers.

• Smokers shouldn’t be allowed to smoke in their vehicles (the example of truckers has been pointed out).

Neither I nor any person I have ever known or heard about has tried to make it unlawful for smokers to *smoke in their own vehicles*.

• Smokers shouldn’t be allowed to smoke in their places of residence

If the carcnogen-spewers in question do not own the property that they're smoking on, then I think it is well within the rights of the person who DOES own the goddamned property to tell the carcinogen-spewers to NOT partake of their deadly habit where it affects others. Also, neither I nor any person I have ever known or heard about has tried to make it unlawful for smokers to *smoke in their own residences*.

• Smokers shouldn’t be allowed to smoke in their own backyards (such as is currently the case in Calabassas CA and several other cities/municipalities around the country)

What utter bullshit.

MAYBE one or two counties in the entire US have passed some sort of ordinance (although I'd have to see the proof first) that has said that smokers cannot "smoke in their own back yards"......bu that hardly makes it the case for the other 99.999999999% of the nation.

• Smokers shouldn’t be allowed to smoke in their own homes if they have children

I am unaware of any such ordinances, but YES, I would support that sort of proposal 100%

Maybe someday, the smoker-haters will be as courteous as I am, too.

Maybe someday America's smokers will come to their fucking senses and stop spewing carcinogens into the atmosphere that others are forced to breathe.

You haven’t checked out the links I’ve provided, have you? If you did, you’d know that I’ve already addressed (and debunked) the CDC’s “proof.”

Pardon me if I view the CDC's health statistics as being juuuuuuust a tad more compelling than your dogmatic and infantile --"Aw, all them mean old smoker-haters just want to stop me from smoking becuz hey hate meeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!! -- bullshit.

Huh... I could swear your previous post in this thread said this:

I say we just kill anyone found with a cigarette in his/her possession. Problem solved.

Of course, you were joking. And I was too, sort of.

Guess you're better at dishing it out than taking it. I'll be more cognizant of this in the future. :)

This is (only slightly) off topic, but I just learned something today that might be of interest to those who support our government's completely hypocritical stance on smoking (specifically, in this instance, prohibiting smoking in public/government buildings).

Here's how that stance goes: "Smoking is BAD!! So we're not going to let you citizens do it in ANY of our pretty white buildings!"

In keeping with this stance, in January of this year, Washington DC instituted a broad ban on smoking in bars, restaurants and other public places, adding the nation's capital to a growing list of smoke-free cities and states.

There is one glaring exception to Washington DC's smoking ban, however.

It seems that lighting up inside the US Capitol is perfectly acceptable.*

* Smoking is allowed in lawmakers' offices, in two cafeterias in the House and Senate buildings, in an unmarked room in the basement of the U.S. Capitol, and in the Speaker's Lobby, an ornate open space sporting several fireplaces and chandeliers.

Well, to be fair to the city of Washington D.C., they don't have the power to ban smoking on federal property.

Oh come now, Lionel....why!, it is perfectly obvious that they passed the law in question for no other reason than they HATE smokers.

Not out of concern for anyone's comfort. Not out of concern for any child or any person with respiratory problems. Not out of concern for anyone's health. Not out of concern for anyone's well being.

But simply because they HATE smokers.

That's pretty typical of government, Frannie.

Why is the legal age of consent only 16 in Washington D.C.? They're no dummies; they MAKE the laws...

The **they** in question here is the city government of Washington D.C.

I do not recall ever saying ANYTHING about the city government of Washington D.C., much less that they "hate everyone".

Only FT could connect dots A and Z and think that just because any law was passed to ban smoking that the people who passed it "hate" smokers. Maybe it was just what the majority wanted? And maybe just because someone smokes doesn't mean "they" feel hatred.. but are merely dissatisfied with an activity they do. But hell, i am "dissatisfied" with ALOT of things my friends do, but they are still my friends...

LOL....you are SO fucking clueless in these discusssions, it's hardly worth the bother trying to get thru the impenetrable fog that surrounds your head.

But I'll try anyway.

The post in question, where I said --"it is perfectly obvious that they passed the law in question for no other reason than they HATE smokers" -- was said purely in sarcasm.

I was saying it sarcastically, in reference to another poster's repeated assertions here that when laws are passed that smokers do not like, they are passed because the legislators "hate smokers".

Sheesh. Buy a clue, will you?

Only DarkFantasy96 could connect the dots, A to Z and think I was actually describing Decka's relationship with clue salesman, which I have no way of knowing in real life and actually feel "sorry" for Decka. Maybe it's just what the majority wants? And maybe just because Decka can't buy a decent clue doesn't mean "he" deserves pity.. they're just dissatisfied with Decka's general state of mind. But hell, I am "dissatisfied" with a lot of things Decka does, but I still love the guy...

DarkFantasy96

I agree with pretty much everything your saying.Great post.Just taking an educated guess about truck drivers not being able to smoke.I had an experience once when I drove an armoured car.My partner lit up and I asked him to put it out. Therefore, these truck drivers may have a side-kick in the truck with them that doesn't smoke.

Stated in your essay is that nothing good comes out of smoking.Early graves do to lung cancer, etc.I can expand on that premise regarding drinking alcohol as well.I am not against drinking at all as long as people are responsible. But if you think about it,nothing positive can or ever will for that matter, occur from drinking alcohol(hard liquor and mixed drinks).Either things can stay the same or catastrophic results can occur which unfortionately happend every day.

Thanks for the essay agin.Great job.

Its hard to tell the difference in some of FT's writings at times...

Most of the time when he is dead serious.. it's hard for me not to laugh or smirk. I guess since he is 99% of the time trying to preach his agenda from a soapbox i thought he seriously said something else... so i guess its my fault for not having ESP. I mean, just because 3 people like to all have fun and try to get the group consensus of me labeled as a certain way doesn't mean they are right does it? ..does it?...

you should hear MY opinions about THEM... but hey, opinions are like assholes.. yada yada yada...

AND.. it's christmas, i shouldn't be flaming people on Xmas... LOL.. well.. only if they deserve it.

and when did i try to insult Napster? I was actually curious as to how you use a blowtorch while you masterbate LOL.. because that alone sounds pretty peculiar, and really doesn't make much sense. It's really all too cliche to hear teens talk about how fucked up they are... as they drive their car their parents bought them, and go home to their $500,000 house(not saying this is you Dark)...
