View Full Version : I'm a message board addict.

Hello everybody. My name is Scott, I'm 27 years old and I am an active poster on two message boards. It seems that the boards that I normally haunt slow down to the point of stopping in the wee hours (when I am usually up and around), so I thought I'd look into joining another. I hit google and browsed around a bit and here I am.

I am a coin collector (hence the screen name), a musician and a writer. None of those pay the bills, of course, so I start trucking in January.

You'll find that I won't hesitate to speak my mind, but my opinions are generally well thought out. I can't stand trolls so you'll never see me starting trouble for no good reason. Politically I'm a Libertarian. Religiously I'm an atheist. I don't shy away from those taboo topics but I certainly won't try to convert you either. I respect the perspectives of others as long as they are offered up honestly.

Welcome, Coindexter! As far as I can tell, we don't have a shortage of atheists or Libertarians around here, but of course we don't mind one more :D

What kind of coins do you collect? I actually used to be kind of into that when I was younger...

Welcome Coindexter.

I know what you mean about being a chat room junkie. I participate in six chat rooms, four actively. Of course, I'm retired so I have all the time in the world.

Good to meet you. Man, I'm gonna have to play devil's advocate just to get debates goin now, so many atheists here.

You're deist-ish, so that's close...

It is not. The difference between not believing in god and believing is bigger than the difference between believing in god and having a religion.

I collect U.S. coins by type and 1979 dated silver coins from around the world.

It may be a bit weird having a bunch of relatively like minded folks around. I'm used to having people kind of gang up on me.

Oh there's plenty of ganging up, but it's usually gang against gang rather than gang against individual...

you poor bastard...i hope you don't have much in the way of bills, if you're just driving the truck. there's no money in general anything much less general freight-just ask your family doctor how he's doing compared to his medical school classmates who specialized.

Looks like I'll average about 60k per year, which is plenty where I live. I'm only going to do it for the next 5 to 10 years while I buy enough rental properties to make a regular job unnecessary.

mikezila

is $60k what the recruiter told you?, or what you figured you could drive in 60 hours a week? keep in mind that you CAN"T drive 70 hours over 8 days. you have to fuel, do safety inspections on the truck and trailer, drop, hook, load and unload...that all eats into your avaiblilty...along with not being able to log more than an average of 5 miles an hour below the prevailing speed limit for the area you're driving thru. trust me, i've had a CDL for 10 1/2 years, i've done the math-they're being generous with that 5 under rule on the logs.

i'm not trying to talk you out of it, you can make a decent middle class income out of driving a truck, but you have to work at it.
