Why, when my session timeout expires when I'm writing a reply, do I get an error message saying "Invalid thread specified" when the system resends the form after I log in again? It's highly aggravating.

I have no idea. Do you have any weird cookie settings?

If you type a long response or just take a long time to craft it, perhaps put it in your word processor so you don't lose the message should that happen.

I have the same thing happen. Very frustrating.

I have had that happen also. The solution I have found is to use the copy/paste function. Copy the message to the clipboard before submitting. If you have taken too long, simply start a new reply, and paste in the previous reply.

Are you remembering to check "REMEMBER ME" when logging in?? (It makes a big difference)

Dude, when I'm at work, I don't want cookies from allforums sitting around on the drive.

I'm with Imagineer.
If I am going to fire off a quick response, I hit 'reply', type it in, and submit.
If however I am going to compose a lengthy diatribe, I page-off to a Word document, and do all my composing there. (Allows me to spell-check my work as well.) Then I cut & paste my paragraphs into a new 'reply'.
Problem solved.

I had the same problem...and Dude is correct...you have to check the box remember me when you log in...then to erase all your cookies all you have to do is remember to "log out" when leaving. You will get a message pop telling you all cookies have been erased.

I don't always get a chance to log out, because many times, I get called away and don't even have time to make the few clicks. I don't know if I will get a chance to come back and log out or if I'll even remember.
Point is, it's a bug within the message board code. Workarounds are okay, but it would be really nice to have a solution. People running the boards would ideally be hip to known issues in the code, and whether it's immediately fixable or not. It's a very reproducible error, and should be documented in the bugzilla.

If you dont check REMEMBER ME,the site is doing exactly what it was programmed to do.. (Expire your cookie after a period of no activity)

The problem is not that the cookie is expiring.

*sigh* Alright, guys, I'll explain it.
See, when you start writing a reply and you take too long, assuming you don't have the Remember Me box checked (leaving a cookie) when you log in, the session will expire, and you'll be forced to log back in. No big deal, because the software is supposed to remember what you typed into the form before you hit send.
Once you log back in, the system reprocesses the form. Well, apparently the code seems to remember the data, it just sends it to the wrong thread, because you get an error message saying, "Invalid Thread Specified - contact your forum administrator"
