The media is trying to bury the Kerry story.
And unless citizens like you take action, they will succeed.
Grassfire just issued a news release on Nancy Pelosi's
statement regarding Trent Lott's apology in 2002 -- asking
the media to apply the "Pelosi Standard" to John Kerry's
comments. This quote plainly reveals the media's double
standard. Here is what Pelosi said:
"[Lott] can apologize all he wants. It doesn't remove the
sentiment that escaped his mouth that day at that party.
And I find it something that is unacceptable. I don't
know what the remedy is to it but I do know what Sen.
Lott said. I know that it was completely inappropriate.
I don't know if any apology is adequate."

I refuse to adopt any strategy Nancy Pelosi advocates as right and just, regardless of what the media does. That woman should have a blowtorch taken to her face.

The media is trying to bury the Kerry story.
You mean the same media that brought it up in the first place?

Being a little overly graphic there, aren't you?

It isn't as big of a story as you want it to be.

you mean.. the same media that says Rush is an asshole for questioning micheal J Fox?I could swear that some adult had explained this to you. Rush did not 'question'. He accused. What a dumb point... it IS a big story because Kerry is a big piece of the democrats' puzzle... and now that Kerry is mouthing off and saying stupid things.. the people should hear about it. It shouldnt be buried...How does any of this make their point (that the media has been and still is all over this story) 'dumb'? Try to get a grip on this projection thing you're doing.

Nobody's saying it should be buried. It's just foolish to say that the media is trying to bury a story that they themselves publicized so much. What I find remarkable about the coverage of this story is the nearly uniform way it is presented. Every television report I've seen has gone along the lines of "Kerry insulted the troops. Republicans are outraged. Kerry says it was a joke." They play the video of Kerry speaking, which by itself probably would lead anyone to think he was trying to insult the troops. It looks to me as though the media are trying to leave exactly that impression.
I've been looking for a transcript of Kerry's original speech for a couple of days now, alas to no avail (if anyone can find it please post a link). What I wanted to know is what he was talking about before and after the offending comment to see if that might shed some light on what he really meant. The closest I've come to finding this out is here:
The Massachusetts senator, who is considering another presidential run in 2008, had opened his speech at Pasadena City College with several one-liners, joking at one point that Bush had lived in Texas but now "lives in a state of denial."
Then he said: "You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

So here we have a report that says Kerry was making jokes at Bush's expense just prior to making the offending statements. I would have thought this information is highly relevant to determining what his intention was. But I had to search high and low to find even this passing reference to the context of his 'joke'. Why has the vast majority of the media been ignoring this?

Sedan.. i don't think its the actual joke that i find so interesting.. but his change in positions immediately following..
his first quotes AFTER the "joke" were blasting people in the white house, mostly against Tony Snow.. saying he'd offer NO apology, and this is all the republicans fault blah blah blah...
And then he did a 180...
Why didnt he just come out right after the "joke" and apologize? Obviously it WASNT a joke to him until he found out that perhaps calling it a "joke" would give him a good alibi? It seems like he stood behind what he said at first.. and then did the normal spineless thing, went to his image meetings, and was told to apologize to save face.

his first quotes AFTER the "joke" were blasting people in the white house, mostly against Tony Snow.. saying he'd offer NO apology, and this is all the republicans fault blah blah blah...I think at that point he really believed that people would look at the tape and see for themselves that he never meant to insult the troops. Sort of an "it's obvious to me, it must be obvious to everyone else" kind of thing. I'll bet he was very surprised to find out how many people were not inclined to give him any benefit of the doubt. That's a politician's ego for you.Why didnt he just come out right after the "joke" and apologize?Because in his own mind he knew that he hadn't meant to offend the troops. So why apologize? You of all people should understand how that one works.Obviously it WASNT a joke to him until he found out that perhaps calling it a "joke" would give him a good alibi?Actually, no. He's been saying all along it was a botched joke.It seems like he stood behind what he said at first.. and then did the normal spineless thing, went to his image meetings, and was told to apologize to save face. Not to mention any chance of ever running for President again, although I think he's finished anyway in that regard. His damage control through this whole thing was abysmal -- like a quarteback throwing an interception for a touchdown instead of throwing the ball out of bounds or even just taking a sack (there, now you've got me doing goddamn sports analogies).
Here's what I think Kerry's biggest problem was: he saw how Al Gore's popularity soared among Democrats when Gore went after Bush last MLK Day. He saw how Democrat's cheered for Bill Clinton when he stood up for himself on FOX News Sunday. So he's been sitting there thinking "I've gotta get some of this going for me too, and I've gotta do it when everyone's watching." So when his chance came he jumped right into it even though it was exactly the wrong moment to pretend he's a pit bull. The bottom line is that his political instincts suck.

Republicans seem to be very nervous about tuesdays mid-terms, and theyll jump all over any Democratic band wagon, reading some of the posts here tells you that.
So when Kerry stumbled, the Republican wolves were circling.
