Independent journalists harassed: Georgia rolled down to the level of Ukraine under Kuchma government!
Not long ago in Gori town (Georgia) my friend and colleague journalist of ‘People’s Newspaper’ Ruslan Becidze was beaten by police within an inch of his life. Well, in Georgia my friend is well-known as journalist specializing in independent journalistic investigations. Moreover ‘People’s Newspaper’ is first-rate opposition periodical and I think that by this way Georgian officials took revenge on journalists for his critical essays concerned with last elections of institutions of local governing.
Western Mass Media mentioned repeatedly about plural violations during the last parliament elections. But local Mass Media kept silent about those facts because of it knew about hard reaction on it of Georgian officials.
What kind of proof do we need that Bush’s plan to build democracy in Georgia collapsed? All our attempts to bring democracy norms to this wild country ended by nothing. Look, all financial resources are plundered or spent for war needs. Saakashvili is ready to kill thousands of people not in Georgia only but in Abkhazia and South Ossetia too. The imperious arbitrariness is in Georgia; power officials could kill anyone, I think you remember the case of Georgian businessmen Girgviliani who was killed by high-ranking representatives of Ministry of Internal Affairs. How much blood should be shed and how many simple journalists like Becidze or Gongadze should die so that the international community of democratic countries exercise harder pressure on Saakashvili regime?
