I recall a big news story in the 1970's in which a Japanese soldier was found on a Phillippine island (?) who thought the war was still going on.

He had been separated from his regiment and had been hiding out in the jungle all that time.

His name was Hiroo Onada.

See here for more info on him http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiroo_Onoda

I knew a couple of bricklayers who worked in Berlin about 20 years ago when the German economy was booming, I remember them telling me then, that their building site was evacuated about once a week, cause they were always digging up UXBs.

There was another story where some people were on an island in the mid-sixties and a japanese soldier in a one man sub landed on the island and actually took them prisoner for a short time.
Here's the story.
