Look I work for a telemarketer (no I don't like it, but since I'm not prone to suicide, I need to do something to pay the bills.)
Anyway, where I work is more into fundraising than selling something. This would make one think people wouldn't be as pissed off, since were generally calling members of an organization and asking for donations. Well your wrong, when the org. is the NRA they tend to call often, to the point of pissing off most members.
Here's my complaint, I know we're irritating as hell, I know we're calling you three or four times a week, and please believe me I know we're calling you on a Sunday. However Yelling at me and playing childish games on the damn phone just makes it worse.
Here's the deal. The federal do not call list, only applies to 'For Profit' organizations. Non-profit's like the NRA are exempt. Yes we all know if you request an org to remove you from their call list they have to. But there are some loopholes. The organization can decide who it recognizes as the person with authority in the household to make this decision. Ex: A certain political party we call for will accept and honor such requests from the donor, the donor's spouse, and their secretary. (said party tends to call a lot of business owners for money.)
Now then things are different with everyone's favorite gun club, they will only recognize and honor the request of the actual donor. Sorry to bust your bubbles but your wife can threaten my family all she wants, but unless you the actual donor gets on there and tells me to take you off the list, we aint doing it. Thus the reason your wife goes ballistice when we call the next day, and the next, and the next. So when she hands you the phone foaming at the mouth telling you to handle this, do it. You would be surprised how many wimps out there don't have the balls to tell the wife to either shut up, or tell us to stop calling.
Another tidbit, if you are the donor identify yourself and make sure you specifically ask to be taken off the list. Trust me unless you are specific, they'll keep calling. Ex: "Hello may I speak with Mr. Smith please?" "STOP CALLING ME YOU FAGGOTS!" and then hangs up. I can't accept his request, because one he never identified himself as Mr. Smith and two he didn't ask to be taken off the list. I know it's splitting hairs, but they're out to get your donations, they're going to keep on splitting until you don't give them a choice.
Also keep this in mind, the operator that's calling you may in some aspect represent the parent organization, but generally not by much and no they can't help you if you pissed at the aforementioned parent organization.
Okay I'm done ranting now. Thank you for your support, and remember to tip your waitresses.
