I have never even been able to eat even one -- they're too hot. They are practically inedible.

You should read the book "Eat This Book" documenting the competitive eating circuit's evolution during the past decade. It's stuff like this, for an entire book! This Richard LeFevre guy is apparently one of the top gurgitators in the world and well-known in the world of competitive eating for years. He holds the world record in several contests. The man can eat.

The thing to keep in mind is today you can no longer just walk in to a competition like this and expect to do okay. These people are professional eaters and they actually make a living by participating in competitions. According to the book in order to be reasonably successful today they must train hard, much like athletes!

Isn't one of those competitive eaters a tiny, 90 lb woman who regularly out-eats the guys in eating contests?
It's incredible to me, how these people do this. Who could eat 25 lbs of spaghetti in a single sitting?

My sis entered a pie eating contest once at the County Fair. Besides ending up with most of the pie on her face and clothes, she was sick as a dog for the rest of the day, and has never been able to even LOOK at a blueberry again.

The most ridiculous I've heard is when the eating champ Kobayashi agreed to do a competition against a bear. And he was disappointed when he lost!

The only thing to do is eat ice cream for the remainder of the day. At least the next morning you can scream ".... come on ice cream!!".

Many moons ago I participated in a japlapeno pepper eating contest & I did 75. I used to feel pretty good about that number ... before eating became a professional sport.
