I think my most prized posession I have is my 1968 Chevy Camaro that I've been working on for over the past 9 years. The main reason I love it so is because I bought it with the last of the money my mom left me when she died back in 1996. So whenever I am completely finished with this car, no matter where I go in it, I feel that I will always have a part of her with me

Of all things you posess, which ones do you cherish the most (and why)

I have a ring that my father made for me almost fifty years ago that I treasure. It has my initials on it and I will leave it to my youngest son because he has the same initials my father had and I do.

I also have a book titled, Love You Forever that I used to read to my mother when she was old, sickly and dying. Whenever I read that book I cry.

Some very old family photographs taken before the Civil War.
All else can be replaced.

My sanity

What is this sanity you speak of? I am unfamiliar with it.

Back to the post, my family. This will sound corny, but the greatest thing I've ever accomplished is growing everyday. My love for my wife, and my son Evan. Ever since I was able to comprehend the important things in life, one over riding and crucial aspect was to have a strong family. Each day through both the trials and victories of life, I achieve my goal. I just pray I never lose the memories of them, that is the one thing about growing old that scares me the most.

If my place were burning the only material possession I would grab would be my mother's gold wedding band. I had a diamond put into it... but only if there were ample time. I don't think I really take pride in anything material it is merely there to temporarily enjoy.
Really there is absolutely nothing I have aquired that I could not walk from and easily live without and not experience regret. That includes every picture I have ever taken as well. There's nothing needed other than the people I have chosen to fill my life.

My computer hard drive? Just kidding. There are backups. :) But when somebody said "memory", I found the Double entendre (intentional or not) enticing. Anyways.

Photographs have always been very important for me. But in this day and age I usually have important photographs saved in multiple digital storage devices as well as uploaded on web photo album servers. This coupled with the fact that I don't have any photographs aged more than 10~12 years means that photos are not too much of a prized possession for me. I also can't think of having anything passed down in the family to me, so that line of prized possession is also out. I quickly measured all my possessions at this point and I notice that although some are certainly valuable, nothing is really old or particularly irreplaceable. All my furnitures and clothes are new or fairly new. My car is new. All notebooks and photos are reasonably save from irretrievability. I have a box of certificates of achievements and awards from school days, and important documents, but somehow these feel very dismissable if ever to become lost. I don't consider humans and pets possessions, so there is no comment on that. I have no special collection habit, so there is a lack of historic, non-replicated, rare items among all my possessions. Even though I have many books, none of them is irreplaceable. I am still looking to buy my first home, so there goes property as prized possession. In the end, memory really is all that matters to me. Digital or otherwise.

In ten or twenty years though it would be nice to have collected some unique, rare, or irreplaceable items.
