View Full Version : Very very bad roommate

Ok, I'm nearing the end of this ordeal, but I'll post it up anyways;

I got this great place, but it was very expensive, and had a 6 mo lease. I got a roommate from out of town to sign on with me (2 bed 2 bath +loft, perfectly new). I showed her around the area, introduced her to my friends, and took her out to parties. Pretty soon, she slept with one of my friends then started talking shit about him, led on another of my friends then started talking shit about him. She stopped giving the common courtesies of responding when I said 'hi' to her and avoided talking with me at all, then I heard from my friends that she was talking shit about me behind my back too. That pissed me off.

Anyways, halfway into the lease she tells me that shes moving out. I told her that was fine, but she had to pay to cancel the lease or get a replacement if she wanted to do that since I couldn't maintain the lease myself. We argued a LOT, and finally she said that she would pay for the remaining 2 months on the lease (which was less than the cost of cancelling the lease). Last night, she tells me that we are getting evicted, so she doesn't write the checks. I called the leasing office an hour ago and they told me that we are not getting evicted. She is supposed to leave today, and be gone by the time I get home, yet she has not paid for the rest of the lease and I am faced with either paying her rent, or picking up and leaving.

Oh, I forgot to mention that she rummaged through my room also, and took a few things from me (luckily I recovered them), including my old fake ID which I found in her room next to the card of a police officer. She also called in a noise complaint on us from her room (my friend overheard her) at 9:30 when myself and 2 friends were sitting in the kitchen chatting over a few beers, and the police came to tell us to be quiet. She didn't say a word to us about it.

This is why I got an apartment by myself as soon as I was able.

Well, I'm thinking pay it if you can and then sue her in small claims. Seems unfair of her but I hear people do it all the time. Sucks!

That is why the only room mate i will ever have would be my best friend Angie, i don't trust anyone else that much. Then again, I currently live with my folks.

This is why I NEVER had a room mate. I found it was far easier to have less luxury and more privacy.

Wow! She is a real piece of work! I completely agree with the small claims court idea. I hope you able to either find a better roommate or a less expensive apartment that is still nice.

I moved in with a good friend. He turned out to be a dick. Of course no where near the biatch you moved in with.

Since she wants to try and get the cops to bust you you should find out if her going through your stuff could be considered tresspassing. Perhaps use that as leverage to get her to pay the rent.

Small claims court, definitely.
Go down to the courthouse and fill out one simple form.
They'll set a date, the summons is mailed to her (or you can be nice enough to inform her verbally as well), you show up on the appointed date and time, you argue your case (bring your landlord along), and then the troublemaking little biotch will have to pay or face the consequences.

For maximum credibility, you need to go file the complaint sooner than later. The longer you wait, the weaker your story will sound to the judge.

When I lived on the North Shore of Oahu a few years ago, I took in a house-mate 'for just a few months'. It seemed perfect, she just needed a place to stay for awhile until she left to go join the Air Force. The girl was funny, very intellectually & spiritually deep, attractive, cheerful, and all my friends really enjoyed her company.

Within two months, she had charmed her way into my bed, told lies to all my friends, tried to alienate me from my own daughter, and had set out to systematically destroy the relationships I had with other women, including my landlady. Most perplexing and maddening, it was. Because I really did care about her. But the girl had issues.

Long story short, I put her on the plane to the mainland on her appointed date, and then set about trying to repair the damage (with regards to my friends and family) to my credibility and my dignity. Somewhere in there I discovered that I had lost some friends forever.

Windwhip,
If you can get rid of this harpy and recover even half the money she owes you, then count yourself lucky. In many ways, it could've been a lot worse.

Document everything! One can almost never have an over-abundance of damming evidence. Use a digital camera where appropriate, try to have any conversations with the roomie in front of a witness, take notes, etc. Judges like to see that stuff. Do your homework & you'll come out on the other end a happier person.

No, I don't think you should hit her. Ever! Why do people always want to hit each other?
I agree, if she did do what you said, then take her to court or something. don't hit her.

no.
Guys don't know their own strength. You could really hurt her and it's not worth that over some stuff or money. I spent 5 days in the hospital because of shit like that, it's wrong.
There's a good reason they have courts and judges, etc. for times like what he is going through with his room mate.

Take her to court, don't hit her.
Real men don't hit.

I HAD to add to this thread because I also have a HORRIBLE roommate!! She doesn't shower daily, has a stupid cat and she doesn't change its stinky litter except every two weeks, she waits till I am asleep to slam doors and bang around the house, even though I've asker her repeatedly not to, she handwashes dishes instead of putting them in the dishwasher (if she can't clean herself properly, then as far as I am concerned, she can't clean dishes either) She talks to my ex and tells him all about my private life, she went into the garage last night and locked herself out and proceeded to bang on the door till I woke up to let her in (it was like 3am) She leaves her door open all night for the cat and I am too nice to make any noise while SHE sleeps, even when its two in the afternoon! umm, what else, OH, she has yet to ever clean her bathroom since we moved in, she leaves lights on in EVERY room all at once, she turns on the faucets for her cat to DRINK off them (GROSS!) she also lets her cat run all over the kitchen countertops (Again GROSS) she laughs after EVERY thing she says (its the most irritating laugh too and its literally after EVERYthing she says) and she talks loudly on her cell phone 24/7 (probably talking to me ex lol)

Now top that....LOL

I actually wish I was in the position where she'd say she's moving out!
