Vegetables are horrid and not meant for mankind.
They're livestock grub!!
OOps, forgot to mention my Dad's "specialty" dish--mashed potatoes, peas, cabbage and sausage--all mixed together.
Us kids jumped for joy when Dad put THIS mess on the table and then ate it by the shovelfull!

I forgot to add fruit... I reeeeeeeeeeeeeally don't like fruit much. I force myself to eat it but not the 2 or 3 servings a day that I should be eating. I prefer veggies over fruit.

Funny you should mention the pig feet cause I almost mentioned them. The "real" Chinese food... I will eat most anything put in front of me except for a few really nasty things I just couldn't choke down...even the stuff I mentioned most of it I could eat if I had to. But organ meat or piggy's feet... I don't think I could physically get my body to cooperate.

I love organ meats--the foodstuffs called "offal" in French culinary lingo and the tastiness of which often are testaments to a good chef's skills. And I love them cooked any of a variety of ethnic ways. I generally will not refuse to eat anything for psychological reasons, such as squeamishness. When I hate to eat something, I pretty much hate the taste. When I hate to eat something, I can tell you that from a blind tasting. Most people who can't eat stuff for squeamish reasons, would have a very different response if doing blind tasting.
Anyway, most of what I hate are vegetables. I hate celery, squash (almost all varieties, except a few when made into bisque), okra, bitter melon, pateurized cheeses, most bitter chinese greens, natto. Pretty much any meat or seafood I would only hate if cooked badly. Anything underseasoned/overcooked/undercooked I would almost always hate.

Also hate green bell peppers when raw or boiled. But find them tasty when roasted/grilled/sauteed. Don't like tomatoes when raw either, but love them when cooked, especially when cooked down to sauce. I hate chunky carrots, but enjoy carrot soup or juice. It seems like a pretty accurate pattern where I generally hate a lot of vegetables when raw and chunky, but wouldn't mind so much when cooked down or juiced.

I've eaten pickled pig's feet along with pickled pig's tails, knuckles, ears and snouts. I guess you have to grow up on stuff like that. I still love smoked pig's feet or knuckles cooked in saurkraut with a bit of fennel seed added. I can sit and gnaw away on that stuff all night.
I do like Southern cooking.

Oh, and anything with by-product in the name.

So, is it more texture than taste? I agree, many foods taste better cooked that raw. Even though, it is the same thing. I find most things retain most of the taste even though the texture is completely different, i.e.raw pumpkin as compared to pumkin pie. Just wondering.

For me sometimes it's enough to change just the texture and I'll suddenly enjoy it, like carrot juice. But grilled bell pepper definitely tastes different than boiled, boiled different than roasted, and roasted different than raw. Since you mentioned pie that reminded me, I also hate apple pie. I think they are gross.

I, personally, think they taste like navy beans. They are just bad in a larger form.

Lima beans probably don't taste all that bad, sort of like Navy beans like mskimi said. I think the problem lies with their size. Once you bite through the slightly relilient skin the inside has an unappetizing texture.

Yeah, the texture is probably the thing I don't like the most. There are things I refuse to eat because of the texture.

If it taste just like chicken why not just eat chicken?
I was in Palm Beach last winter and there were frog's legs on the menu. Never having eaten them I just had to order them. Guess what, they tasted just like soft, watery chicken. Only at four times the price.
Next time I will order the chicken.

Nothing but chicken tastes exactly like chicken, unless you overseason everything with the same sauce/rubs/etc. Come on people! I find this American idiosyncrasy amusing, 'cause most of they time when you say it you know you don't actually mean that. You know what frog legs, alligator tails, rattlesnake bites and whatnot taste like. You can probably even correctly identify them in a blind tasting once you've had them. It's almost as if people say "tastes like chicken" just for the sake of saying it!

ok well I have tried moose meat, elk meat, bear, rabbit and a few other wild ones but I will stick with chicken. I know what they have eaten but the moose meat is good.
Elk is a bit to strong tasting for my liking.
I also dislike Blue cheese, stew as everything is mixed together. The items alone are good but not in a stew, yucky ewwwwwww

Woman finally cures her 40-year fear of vegetables
By David Sapsted
(Filed: 29/09/2006)
A woman who claims to have been terrified of vegetables for more than 40 years declared herself on the way to being cured yesterday.
Krissie Palmer-Howarth, 61, a cabaret singer from Newhaven, East Sussex, has not been able to handle vegetables or even say their names since developing her phobia at the age of 17. Just their smell made her feel sick.
Now, after a session of hypnotherapy, Miss Palmer-Howarth says that she can stand to be close to vegetables, even broccoli, which she detests most of all, though she is not yet at the stage where she can handle them.
advertisement
Fear of vegetables is not unknown to the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the condition is called lachanophobia.
Miss Palmer-Howarth puts her condition down to the awful smells in her uncle's "dark, dingy and dirty" greengrocer's shop when she was a child. "It's a stupid thing to be scared of," she said.
