Too Many Voters in Milwaukee? (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/09/14/politics/main2008466.shtml)

The city of Milwaukee must re-examine its polling-place records from Tuesday's primary because the reported turnout of about 80,000 appears to be greatly inflated, a state elections official says.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported its analysis found the total reported for the city could be tens of thousands of voters higher than the number that actually cast ballots.

For example, the city reported that there were 78,801 ballots cast for the major-party candidates for attorney general.

But adding the votes cast for the two Republican and two Democratic candidates gave a total of only 40,971, the newspaper said. That would indicate 37,830 voters did not cast ballots in that race, which would be highly unlikely for one of the most hotly contested elections on Tuesday's ballot.

The Sentinel reported that the exact same number of voters were counted at polling places across the city — which it said is a "red flag" that the results were bogus. Four of Milwaukee's wards came in with turnouts inexplicably higher than 100 percent – the highest had a turnout of 145.4 percent. (...)

They're doing a manual recount of the total number of ballots.

"Kevin Kennedy, executive director of the state Elections Board, said it appeared that a computer programming problem resulted in the inaccurate totals."

were electronic voting machines used? what a crappy article to not say...

The article was written for the local market, where people know that paper ballots are used. The statement that the ballot bags will be opened and manually counted should tell you that paper ballots exist, and will be counted might serve as a clue to the existence of paper ballots. The computer program in question was used to add up the totals from the optical scanning machines that count the ballots.

It has nothing to do with what party and everything to do with the integrity of voting in the states. I would have no problem with electronic voting machines if they had a paper trail.

And you know that if the Democrats were stealing elections with electronic voting machines you'd be whining like a little bitch. It's what your good at.

And it never said it was on paper ballots, the only two phrases even close to relevent are ambiguous.

"He said the city should re-examine the totals using polling-place records and make sure no outcome was affected. "

"The best thing to do is go back to paper," Nickolaus said. "And that's exactly what we did."

BTW I don't know how many of you had been following the Mexican elections but they seem quite suspicious.

The right candidate won with a ridiculously narrow margin. Then large boxes of ballots were found in dumps, most of which were for teh left candidate. 1.5 million people protested in Mexico city to demand a recount. The courts denied a recount. Now the government wants to burn the ballots so no one can ever know the truth...

I think you can stop right there. Everyone knows that a right leaning candidate could never win an election legitimately.

I'm not sure if you looked at vilepagans link, as that was what I was referencing. It is a good article from the local newspaper. There are indeed paper ballots, and they are being looked at. The public has been invited to watch them being counted. Not just the media, but any interested citizen may attend the recount. Nothing is being hidden.
