As a Christian I dont agree with a lot of what he says.
But he does have a good message. As with all religions some of what he says is helpfull.
A lot of what he says is still controversal. He may or may not have taken some of his ideas from authers who have come before him.

I listened to a lot of what he had to say on the subject of human interest and it seemed to me that he was feeding people what they wanted to hear.

Doing a good job of it as well considering his book was a best seller for roughly 6 weaks.

I've read a couple of his books and found them quite interesting. I can understand why he would be considered very controversial. Although for me at the point when I read them, the timing was good so most sat well with me except for the no alcohol... ;)

At some point though half way through the second or third book, he seemed to become repetitive and I started wondering if he was losing his inspiration and enjoying all the money he was generating a bit too much. I'll check out the movie.
