We have something very similar over here, we call them "English Muffins." They are more dry and irregularly shaped when compared to crumpets.

Yes,,,we also have these at breakfast mainly with jam and butter...
Macdonalds use these muffins in their breakfasts,,,,Egg and bacon Mcmuffins and sausage and egg Mcmuffins..
They taste nothing like crumpets,,,lol...
Trust the English to give it a name like that !!

Damn it, Red. Where have you been. I've been worried about you and asking if anyone knew how you were. Don't ever sneak off like that again.

007,
They're not tiny compartments. They're nooks and crannies.
Your picklets sound like pancakes to me, Red.
Right then. Crumpets, jam, nooks & crannies. Should it be butter, margarine, or "I can't believe it's not butter"?
Ha ha.

They probably have a more colourful name for butter. Like "teat jam" or something like that.
LOL.....we have *I cant believe its not butter* But i like Clover !!
Frogger,,,,pikelits are like sweet thin crumpets,,,if u said pancakes to me id automatically think crepe kinda pancakes,,,,,which we would put lemon and sugar on,,,,American pancakes are very similar to Scotch pancakes.
I love chattin about our food V your food !

I am one of the few non-Brits I know who actually likes British food. I have even tried beans and toast for breakfast. It really isn't all that bad.
I still don't like vinegar on my chips though. I like either loads of salt or brown gravy.

Vinegar on chips (fries) is something I first experienced in western NY state, and of course overseas when I was stationed outside the U.S. It's a condiment I'll sometimes use on fries. Here in the U.S., ketchup is a food group, rather than a condiment.

Red, maybe in epicurially challenged Britain all gravy is brown, but here in the States we have white gravies and red gravies too. Biscuits and gravy, one of my favorite breakfasts comes with white gravy.
Vinegar makes the chips (French Fries, Pommes Frites) too soggy. Every once in awhile I try them with a balsamic vinegar reduction but it still sogs them out.
Mushy peas.......................aaaaaaargh! Damn, that sounds horrid.
Toad in the Hole, Bangers and Mash, Bubble and Squeak, okay, but mushy peas, not on your life.
You do know, Red, that I am the world's best preparer of German meals, or so I've been told by my wife and children.

Oh God I'm gonna die... you have slain me. I haven't had crepes with lemon and sugar on them for years, and years. As a kid I almost threw up when I was asked if I wanted pancakes and this big thick thingie turned up with some kind of brown gook all over it. Now I would eat them with the Aunt Jamima happily. Alas, I won't probably eat a pancake or a crepe anytime soon either. :(
Back to the tofu.
Although, I could be persuaded to go off of my diet for a few crumpets (no work) just open the package threw them into the toaster oven, smear them with "organic" hehehe jam and butter... whoooooooooooooooooooooooo hoooooooo!
Ok, so what are kippers? Just sausage? What's in them?

Please pardon my extreme ignorance pertaining to british cuisine, but I beg to ask exactly what the brits refer to as "chips". :p

What we Americans call French Fries and most of the rest of the world call Pommes Frites. (literally, fried apples).
