The last movie in a theatre was 'Cars'. I have a 4yr old so it was a no brainer. Like I need an excuse, I had a collection of 12 disney movies, before Evan came along already. Cars is actually one of Pixar's better movies.
I'm just too dang poor to see as many as I want.

Pirates 2. It was pretty good, minus the fact that Captain Jack Sparrow seemed far more competent than in the last movie, a little too much. Unlike what I've heard from other people, I liked the constant addition of plot lines and the inability to tie them up. It fits the style of the movie, and who needs closure?

"Eight-Legged Freaks"----giant spider movie.
My son and I watched this for, like, the 6th or 7th time the other day.
We like to watch people die horrible deaths by being eaten alive by gigantic horrid arachnids.

V for Vendetta.
A true masterpiece. Seldom do the movies deal in disturbing and truly profound subjects ......subjects like the dominance of the elite Few over the restless Many.
This is IMO one of the best movies you will ever see.

Woohoo! FT is chatting about movies, and a good movie at that. A lot of people I heard talk about it didn't care for it, but it and it's graphic novel source material make for great entertainment and a powerful message.

Oh and the last movie I watched was Final Destination 3 it was pretty kick ass as far as horrible deaths go :) one thing I've always liked about final destination is the chain reaction factor, and the gruesome gore.

Last theater movie: Pirates 2. Really enjoyed it. Great brain candy.
Most recent tv movie: Daytime Wife (from 1939). Watch it if it happens to be run in your area. Was pretty funny.

Nah, not "Hostel".
We're kinda picky about our horror movies and from what I've seen of the previews, that movie looked like a load of pigslop, with a tiresome plot that's been done 1000 times before.

I don't think I'll ever understand why watching innocent people die in horrible ways makes for "good entertainment."

Yes, "Eight-Legged Freaks" made no pretense to be anything other than it was, a fun, kinda freaky grade B movie. Not overly violent, funny, very fake--it was FUN.
I don't care for splatter films either--they're not scary, just sickening, IMO.
Give me good suspense any old day.
Innocent people is one thing. But to see stupid people die is another thing altogether. Hey look, half of the people from our illegal party out in the deserted house in the woods have vanished. WAIT!! There's a noise in the basement. SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE SHARPENING AN AXE!!!!!!! LET'S GO SEE WHAT IT COULD BE.
I love it. You know it's coming, you just don't know how.

Last movie seen in a theater, John Tucker Must Die. Completely stupid and my wife and I were the only non-teenagers in the theater. We enjoyed the movie though. Before that was, You, Me, and Dupree.
Last t.v. movie was Ron Clark. It was the story of a teacher in Harlem and was really good.

Yeah, there's that, and it is also a funny movie. I find lots of the teen movies to be funny and socially perceptive; Heathers, Mean Girls, Freaky Friday, You Me and DuPree, John Tucker Must Die, Teaching Mrs.Tingle (original title Killing Mrs. Tingle.

evakian, I know people who died on 9/11. Mpore than a dozen parents of students in the school district where I worked at the time were either in one of the towers or were emergency personal trying to save them. My son was supposed to be in the WTC that day and had he not already gotten an offer from a different law firm would probably be dead.
I see nothing silly about still feeling too close to the situation to see a movie about it.

I sincerely doubt that if I even knew 100 of the people who perished that day, my feelings would not change.
This movie was not made too soon, it wouldn't have been 2 years ago and it isn't now. Also, you always seem to use my age since you've discovered how old am I, that is not an obligatory thing to do, you know.
Frogger
08-18-2006, 05:15 PM
I am not using your age in a derogatory way, or at least I didn't mean it that way. Young people are often further removed from death than older people. Younger people more often feel omnipotent and see death as something distant that happens to other people.
Sorry if you thought I was ragging on you.

That may be true for some teenagers, but now you are pigeon-holing me what what you think I believe, you're merely extrapolating. And in this case, you're very wrong, like every time you've assumed what I believe.
Movies like WTC and Flight 93 are something I think every person connected to 9/11 should see.

I just watched Spy Game with Robert Redford and Brad Pitt on TV a couple of days ago. It was a pleasant surprise. I don't watch a whole lot of movies, but I was channel surfing and got caught up in it.
I rarely go to the theater. I think the last movie I went to see was HP and the Goblet of Fire.

In the Valley of Elah. It was good. Tommy Lee Jones and Susan Sarandon were both very good in their parts. It is by the same guy that directed the movie Crash, which won the oscar for best picture although I did not think it should have. I thought this movie was better but it's not going to win best picture or probably even be nominated for best movie.

Watched "Becoming Jane" last night, it's a romantic movie, but also political/historical, so not entirely a girls film :)
I'll just copy the plot outline from imdb, but it is very much a recommended movie, I loved it :)
The year is 1795 and young Jane Austen is a feisty 20-year-old and emerging writer who already sees a world beyond class and commerce, beyond pride and prejudice, and dreams of doing what was then nearly unthinkable - marrying for love. Naturally, her parents are searching for a wealthy, well-appointed husband to assure their daughter's future social standing. They are eyeing Mr. Wisley, nephew to the very formidable, not to mention very rich, local aristocrat Lady Gresham, as a prospective match. But when Jane meets the roguish and decidedly non-aristocratic Tom Lefroy, sparks soon fly along with the sharp repartee. His intellect and arrogance raise her ire - then knock her head over heels. Now, the couple, whose flirtation flies in the face of the sense and sensibility of the age, is faced with a terrible dilemma. If they attempt to marry, they will risk everything that matters - family, friends and fortune.

Although that plot outline payed less attention to the part of the story about her independence and writing, but that is an important part of the movie, and is what made it good... Neither were there a "happy romantic ending" :)
