Frank Zeidler, Milwaukee's last Socialist Mayor, has died at the age of 93. You can say what you want about his politics, but he did many good things for this city, and he was more interested in what he could do for people than what they could do for him.

Frank Zeidler accomplished a great deal for Milwaukee. One of the less appreciated things he did was to insist on public parks in every neighborhood of the city. He was also the champion of the effort to bring major league baseball to Milwaukee, and was successful in getting the Braves to move from Boston.
It is also notable that at the time Senator McCarthy was staging his hearings in Washington looking for Communists, Milwaukee had a socialist mayor. Politics can be truly weird.
