Undoubtedly they'll blame the missle failure on the U.S. or it's allies.

Watch out, N. Korea has weapons of mass destruction.

They threatened nuclear war with the US if we attacked them. They'll need to do better than a missile that blows up 40 seconds after launch.

Interesting though. They claim to have nukes (WMD) and are testing missiles that can reach the US. They are not quite there yet, but certainly this looks like a "Clear & Present Danger" - I wonder why we are not attacking them?

Wonder what happens to a live nuclear warhead if the missile it's carried on explodes right after launch? Good job, North Korea! :)

It'll be Hats off to North Korea!

These guys are struggling with 1955 technology. We send aid to these morons. They threaten a nuclear war, yet we can put a nuke on a postage stamp 10,000 miles away and fire it within 10 mins after the order is given. All that's needed is a bit of paperwork and so forth. They would take a week to fuel the rocket and it's accuracy would be probably +/- 100 miles min. Bring it on N.Korea.

The best thing that could happen is China, S Korea and the US stop sending any aid to N.Korea. Then lets see what happens....

and here goes the seventh... no info about how long it flew before it blew up though :)

Is this guy (http://mattbrennan.ca/img/Kim%20Jong%20Il.jpg) wearing a Members Only jacket?

Isnt the easiest thing to do here just fire some cruise missiles full of HE at selected targets,ie launch pads, launchers, storage facilites, guidence systems.

Take it out on the launching pad just as it ignites. That'll keep them from playing around with any more rockets for a while.

That's what I said on 29 June ....

One of two things - it either plops down to earth in one piece for easy cleanup, or it blows into millions of pieces and irradiates the local populace (i.e. a dirty bomb).

Depends on the bomb design - if it's a crudely made bomb like the one used over hiroshima with a bullet-design, it could go off if it triggered the explosives used to propel the bullet!

The design of the hiroshima bomb is essentially the same basic design as all A-bombs.

Dont modern designs have a explosive casing to start the reaction.

Yes, all A-bombs involve blowing together the critical mass. FatMan (hiroshima bomb) was like a cannon where the last peice was fired into the rest. The Nagasaki bomb was a hollow sphere blown into a critical mass. Nagasaki bomb was plutonium & Hiroshima was Uranium.

H-Bombs are A-Bombs surrounded in heavy water. The A-Bomb starts the fusion reaction of the water.

Does anyone know if the NK have and are developing their own technology,or are they getting supplied by the famous logo 'made in china'.

I don't think China are supplying them with any missile technology - that wouldn't be in China's interests. They originally got designs from Egypt in the 1960's for scud missiles in return for supporting them in the 1967 war with Israel. Since then they have done the design themselves based on the scud (which is why it blew up 40 seconds after launch)
