View Full Version : Girl sues MySpace for getting her assaulted
I'll be really surprised if she wins this one - although in the US justice system, anything can happen (OJ anyone?)

Girl sues MySpace for getting her assaulted

A 14 YEAR-OLD girl who claimed she was sexually assaulted by a man she met on MySpace.com has launched a $30 million lawsuit against its operators.
The lawsuit is critical of the fact Myspace does not verify the age of its users and calls measures in place to stop grizly old geezers grooming sweet young things as "utterly ineffective." The suit alleges Myspace fails in its duty to protect minors.
A lawyer representing the girl's family told reporters, "MySpace is more concerned about making money than protecting children online."
The girl and her family filed the suit against Myspace owner News Corp as well as the 19 year-old accused of fiddling with her.
The girl gave out her mobile phone number to the bloke after she met him on the site. She says that after the pair went out one time to see a film and have a bite to eat, he drove her to a car park and sexually assaulted her.
And that's Myspace's fault.

She won't get a cent.
And not only that, but it wouldn't surprise me if the judge doesn't dismiss this frivolous waste of time completely out of hand.

They sue myspace because they don't verify the age of posters, didn't this girl's family notice that her new friend was 19 years old and driving a car? Duh? What parents would let their 14 year old girl go out in a car with a stranger? She should sue her parents.

She should sue her parents.
They don't have any money.

It is not myspace fault.
She went on her own free will.
Sue the rapist, Then Kill him.
Then Kill him.
A bit harsh punishment, isn't it?

Rather than suing anyone, call Child Protective Services & get a social worker's input. Obviously, this 14 year old child is in dire need of adult supervision and the parents aren't providing such.

Rape is often the first step before murder. A child molester in my neighborhood spent time in jail for molesting a child so he vowed to never get caught again so he killed his next victim to prevent the victim from telling on him. But guess what, the rapist left his DNA on the dead 8 year old boy.
Sometimes a rapist will kill a human being just for a few moments sexual pleasure.

I don't know---maybe the girl snuck out of the house and her parents were totally in the dark.
Kids do stuff like that.
Still tho, this is tantamount to the parents of Elizabeth Smart, the girl who conveniently left the garage door open for her "abductor", suing Sears, Roebuck.

she might have a case if the guy assaulted her RIGHT when they met... but they went out to eat and went to a movie.. and she stayed. That shows that she was there on her own free will at the time....
If this case goes through, im going to sue the college i went to because i met a girl there who cheated on me.... i mean, COME ON.. i met her AT THE COLLEGE... its the COLLEGES fault for having GIRLS there who CHEAT on people LMAO

Could it be that some lawsuits are not for justice but for money?

Do you think this justifies killing all rapists?

Definitely not! But, a rapist should be on parole because so many rapist become murderers.
But the are different levels of rape. I dated a woman who always said, "Don't do this to me". Her body said yes but her words said no and I did not push her into it. If anyone witnessed our weekly affair they could convict me for rape.
In the case of this 14 year old girl, she could initiate the sex and the 19 year old boy could passively follow and he would still be a rapist because of his age. Some 14 year old girls have fully developed bodies.
With this in mind the parents and girl could have set the whole thing up knowing that a 19 would automatically be convicted of rape. Then after the planned sexual encounter they could sue for Millions, and become millionaires.

It's baloney.
MySpace have done nothing wrong. If she met the guy at the shopping mall I doubt her parents would sue the mall.
The parents are behind this - they see $$$ in their future.
Their hope is to become excentric millionaires from the ozarks.
The right outcome is the parents get thrown in Jail along with the rapist & the girl goes into foster care.

I agree with DrewM. The parents could be behind this. The parents should have been watching what a fourteen year old was doing on the internet. Parents should be watching what their children are doing on the internet anyway. The internet can be a fun place to explore. However they should be thanking themselves that it was not someone older and more perverted then a nineteen year old that got a hold of their daughter. The only reason that they are sueing MySpace is because they don't want the blame to come down on them for being bad parents and all they want is money. If the 19 year old did rape her and it is not just her screaming rape because mommy and daddy caught her having sex at a young age. Then rightfully so he should go to jail.

I dont see how anyone can verify your age on the net,in heres a good example,Froggers a lot older than he looks, and Borg is actually 12.

You can't, thats more of a reason for parents to watch their children more closely on the computer and the internet
