Who got us out of the Vietnam War?

The French were beaten up by the end of 1954 at Ðiên Biên Phú, and where the French left off, the US entered with military assistance, observers and supplies to the south, so at that time Eisenhower was still president, though during the Kennedy/Johnson years it escalated, but that wouldn't have happened if during Eisenhower/Nixon (VP) years no US military had set foot in South Viet Nam ....
And of course Nixon, knowing Viet Nam was lost, decided to get out of there in order to get re-elected. Like Regan delayed on purpose the freedom of the US hostages in Iran so he would be elected president.

Politics, is just dirtier than crap ....

A Republican got us in, a Republican got us out.

Now what was the purpose of that poll?

The correct answer isn't included in your poll.

US military involvement in Vietnam officially began in 1955 with the deployment of US military advisors to Vietnam. The war escalated under Kennedy and Johnson, but started under Eisenhower's presidency.

But I'm more curious about the point you're trying to make by bringing this up.

Some people believe Nixon got us into the vietnam war. (John Kerry used to believe that)

Some people believe Nixon got us into the vietnam war. (John Kerry used to believe that)Considering that John Kerry was already in Vietnam before Nixon was even President, I find that highly unlikely. If Kerry did ever make such a claim, he may have been referring to the fact that Nixon was Vice President when the war got underway.

When he was running for president he said that Nixon sent him to Vietnam. Maybe you can teach me a little somthing. When was Nixon the Vice President?

Johnson was president when we entered the Vietnam war.

As for John Kerry, he served in Vietnam under both Johnson and Nixon, so he can say that either of those Presidents "sent him to Vietnam." Whatever the case may be, I'm absolutely sure that he knew that Nixon didn't start the Vietnam War. He would have to have been brain-dead during the 60s to think otherwise.

Johnson was president when we entered the Vietnam war.As I pointed out, the US military was on the ground in Vietnam when Eisenhower was President, well before Johnson, or even Kennedy, was in the White House. Johnson just put the war into full throttle.

For the US, the start date would have to be around July of 1961. My battalion was on patrol in the South China sea when President Kennedy ordered us to Laos. We were to be issued live ammo and to wait for further instructions. We floated in the South China sea for several months before we were ordered back to our home base of Okinawa. I was with 2nd bat. 9th Marines on the USS Paul Revere when all of this happened.

Uhhh.......you seem to have missed the following fact, gmsisko;

""US military involvement in Vietnam officially began in 1955 with the deployment of US military advisors to Vietnam""

A guy named Eisenhower was president at that time.

November 1, 1955 - Eisenhower deploys Military Assistance Advisory Group to train the South Vietnam Army. This marks the official beginning of American involvement in the war as recognized by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

When quoting someone else it's considered good form to indicate that.
