Fellow historians,
If you could somehow go back in time and witness a significant historical event in history, what would you most like to see?

I would have liked to have viewed either the first shots at Lexington, or be an invisible witness at The Last Supper ( to FINALLY put an end to this interminable "DaVinci Code" brouhaha.)

It also would have been nice to have seen Alexander.

I'd like to be behind the bushes on the grassy knoll in Dallas, just to see if there was a second gunman at the Kennedy assasination.

I would also like to see what happened at Jesus tomb after the burial and before the tomb was found to be empty.

Another interesting place to be would be Roswell, New Mexico, on the fateful day when the weather balloon, or whatever else it might have been crashed. It would be interesting to see.

If I could I would go back to the most important event in human history, my birth. Kidding, but there would be too much for me to want to see! The surrender at Appomattox, the landing at D-Day, the liberation of Auschwitz, the first performance of Romeo and Juliet, countless battles, and more. And, of course, the opening day of Star Wars in '77 at Grauman's Chinese theater.

The nailing of the 95 Theses on the church door at Wittenberg and the aftermath of that act.

Germany saw that Russia army was bad in fighting with Finland. the generals think Germany can win Russia easy. then Germnay invader Russia and lose the war. if Germnay did not fight with Russia, the world now will be muc h différent place.

I can sympathize paul, but I hardly think it qualifies as a "historical" moment...btw, I should think a cricket bat would work as well as a "baseball stick" :)

So many events! Guess I'd have to start with that issue of the burning bush - what's reported to have happened there has haunted humanity for eons.

A motorcycle helmet would work just as well as a "baseball stick" - more commonly called a 'bat'.

I thought about that, but I'm not sure I'd want to go witness a huge battle unless my safety were assured.

As for the battles you chose, Kursk would have been noisy, smoky, and too spread out to see much I think. Trafalgar would have been the easiest to be an observer at, and probably would have been best viewed from a safe distance anyway. Alesia would have been nice to watch through binoculars from a balloon high above the town.
