So the Houston Texans have the #3 overall pick in the draft. They had a nice first season, for a brand new franchise, but they set a record for most sacks allowed in a season with a pretty pathetic offensive line. Granted they had 2 injuries on the O line, but one was a question mark when we signed him.

I was totally expecting the Texans to draft some O linemen, so draft day comes around, and what do they do?

They draft a stupid wide receiver. *bonk*

Well, they don't have many good WRs anyway. Gaffney and Bradford, right? They needed an upgrade there, and what idiot would use the third pick in the draft to get an OFFENSIVE LINEMAN??? Maybe they should have traded down and gotten an OLman there...

Texans' draft picks:

1(3) ANDRE JOHNSON WR MIAMI (FLA.)
2(9) BENNIE JOPPRU TE MICHIGAN
3(3) ANTWAN PEEK DE CINCINNATI
3(11) SETH WAND OT NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE
3(24) DAVE RAGONE QB LOUISVILLE
4(4) DOMANICK DAVIS RB LSU
6(19) DREW HENSON QB MICHIGAN
6(41) KEITH WRIGHT DT MISSOURI
7(3) CURRY BURNS S LOUISVILLE
7(19) CHANCE PEARCE C TEXAS A&M

Okay, you're right, that this draft didn't have an O lineman of a #3 pick overall calibur, but you're wrong to think that a team would be foolish to draft an O lineman at the #3 pick. The #4 and #6 picks were D linemen this year, and I can think of some outstanding OL drafts by past Houston Oiler teams. 1982, Mike Munchak, #8 overall, 1983, Bruce Matthews, # 9 overall, 1984 Dean Steinkuhler, #2 overall. The Oilers went on to have one of the top offensive lines in pro football for the next 10-15 years. I guess I can't help but remember that pattern of drafting and wishing that the Texans would take a look at the success that those draft picks generated.

Okay, let's say that drafting an O lineman is a bad idea though. Couldn't the Texans at least get a position that they REALLY need help at, namely, running back? You know what's really funny about the Texans draft, if you take a look at it, they drafted not one, but TWO stinkin quarterbacks!!! Cmon, everyone in Houston loves David Carr! GAHHH.

It's hard to be a Houston fan.

"It's hard to be a Houston fan."

How well I know.....Bills (but I love losing superbowls) here.

A great weekend is when the cowpukes lose (F__ them cowboys) and the Bills win. Happens more often than one might expect, actually.

Tampa Bay, here. :D Used to be horrible all around, now we've got one world champion team, another still fighting in the playoffs, and another with a hell of a future still in the minors.

Tampa Bay as difficult to support as any team out there. Spent most of my years outside of Buffalo, but to this day, I root for them, even here on the Falcon's home turf.

Ahhhh, a Cowboy hater!!! I LOVE YOU MAN!!! Lol!

Tampa is cool, but I've always liked teams that focus on offense more than defense. It's just more fun. Buffalo, man...you guys broke our hearts here in Houston that one year. Let's drop that.

I feel sorry for you, Havok. You have Steve Spurrier.

Spurrier is only a good coach when his talent level FAR exceeds anything the other team has. And forget about him being able to change a gameplan on the fly. "If the pass isnt working, pass some more." is his motto.

Tony Boselli has all but announced that he will retire. Apparently he will not be able to come back from his chronic injuries. Though he never played a down for the Texans, I think many were looking for him to eventually anchor the offensive line. Since Boselli is now out of the picture, and we had a real weak offensive line draft, I wonder what the Texans have to look forward to. Who knows, perhaps they can break their own record.

I think it'll be a very safe bet (literally, a safe bet) to gamble that the Texans will score very little this year. Perhaps their defense will keep games close, but I think Houston will be fortunate to reproduce their record that they had last year.
