Historical footnote---many survivors of the ship's sinking lived to a very ripe old age. One of them, a lady, later survived a fire, and was a War correspondent--made it through without a scratch.
It's as if, after that night--they realized there was little in life to really worry about.
(PS The lady mentioned in the above link was the last American survivor.

Do you mean Rose?
No, the lady who was the war correspondent and lived a tumultous life was named Edith Russell, I believe. She had a good luck musical pig that she had on board that night and later carried it with her everywhere she went. Before she died, she donated it to Walter Lord, Titanic historian.
I believe the character of Rose is based on this Edith.
Orrrr Bless !!
RIP.......
I never knew the part of Rose was actually baised on a real person......
Thanks :D
Now, the Titanic has no survivors.

I thought so too, but I guess she does.
Still lving are 2 people--one was a 10 month old baby that night, and one was a 2 month old. Of course they would have no memories of that night, but they can always say.....I was there..... Wow.
Another survivor, I forget her name, took exception when Dr Ballard claimed he was on board the ship ( exploring the wreckage.) She said. "How can he say he was on the ship? Now I was on the ship!"
Many survivors could never bring themselves to talk about that awful night. They tried to block it out-- a few committed suicide.....as many wondered why they were alive and 1500 others, mainly steerage passengers, women and kids, were not.
One-third of the survivors were crew.

LOL, and it was Allah's fault the ship sank.....
Where I work, our Titanic newspapers covering this story are the number one most requested item we have at our library.
The most requested, and I've worked here for almost 20 years.
Tell Allah to put that in his pipe and smoke it.

According to my favorite newspaper, The National Enquirer, a Titanic survivor was found still alive in a lifeboat--after 75 years.
It was the captain, Captain Smith. He had no recollection of the sinking, the poor soul.
This is the paper tht frequently reports on Alligator Boy, Elvis sightings, and recently, that World War II bombers were found on Mars.
Thank god for this cutting edge reporting that readers can trust.

Don't knock those alternative papers. One of them was the first to inform us about Bat Boy.

I've always found it odd that more people didn't survive.
There was an almost two and a half hour time lapse between striking the berg and when the ship dipped beneath the sea. Plenty of time to get more than 500 odd people off.
Many lifeboats left half filled, or even less. A lot of confusion that night, no real plan...there had been no boat drill. And of course, many steerage passengers were prevented from reaching the boat deck.
What I find especially appalling is that, even now, many cruise ships do not have boat drills nor any proper plan in case of some kind of untoward ocurrence.
Any passenger on a cruise ship ought to check these things out for themselves and formulate their own plan, because the crews aren't doing it.

I know that Royal Caribbean has life boat drills as soon as they leave first port. I recommend the line. Great service and accomodations.

Here's a link from USA today. com about the dangers of some cruise ships/party boats --I'm afraid that, to read the entire article, you'll have to pay as it's a subscriber service:

This was partly due to the fact that many in first class thought it was actually safer to stay on the Titanic rather then get in a small boat out in the ocean. They didn't really realize the Titanic was actually going to sink which cost them a lot of time before it was obvious the Titanic was going down.

I've heard and seen about all these Titanic crap over and over again, there has been many disasters all over the planet with hundreds of thousands of casualties, but you hear of them perhaps for a month or so, the TIDAL WAVES of the Indian ocean over a year ago, lasted, what?... a year or so ... The Pakistan earthquake of a few months ago, does anybody remember those hundreds of thousands of souls???

True, but those were natural disasters, not caused by rank stupidity.
Titanic represents perhaps ALL silly and stupid waste of life. It's a microcosm of senselessness.
