In RPG games, a lot of players cheat and/or exploit the game logic. One thing that puzzles me is, if a particular exploitation is so blatant and requires no skill whatsoever, and yet takes a long time and repetition to do, why not just use a cheat editor to achieve the same result? For example, in a lot of games there is some way or other you can repeat a simple action and get infinite money. But it takes a long time. Same thing with re-rolling on character creation. There is no skill involved, so some player would simply roll and roll and roll until they get the total they wanted. Why not just use a cheat editor, again?
My philosophy is, if cheating makes the game less fun, don't cheat. And vice versa.

What sort of titles do you mean? Often times they may not use a cheat editor because it is an on-line game that will result in their being banned from playing by the game masters. Other times it could be something difficult to make an editor for, or they don't know about any editor, or want to play the game without cheats regardless of how they bend the rules or make it more boring for themselves. To each his own.

Single player game mode only. Long quest oriented RPG like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Morrowind, Neverwinter Night...etc. I think about this most often when reading detailed FAQs of those games or reading the game forum of these games. Many exploitations (or straight, boring play like endless dice rolling on character creation) would be listed and used by players. But cheat editor download is usually available. Some exploitations involve holding down a computer key in a particular spot for long period of time (hours), to gain stat. Some involve the selling and buying back of the same item 100s of times with the same merchant, to gain gold. I suppose it puzzles me because in my opinion when you are not using skill or experiencing something interesting, you are not actually playing the game. In other words I see the above techniques as inferior ways to "Edit" the game, not actually playing the game. I would just use the editor, if given the options.
