Armenian communities of Georgia are gravely disappointed with USAID program in Javakhetia region!
The program originally meant to involve local social organizations into matters of governance is actually the one of discriminative nature!
The region of Javakhetia in Georgia is predominantly sttled by ethnical Armenians. There have been numerous gross violations of our rights by Saakashvili regime. And we hoped that American organization USAID would bring real democracy in here. Alas! 5 Armenian communities were just totally ignored when vital for them issues of local governance were debated at the meeting April 26-27 in the administrative centre of the Javakhetia. Representatives of all Georgian communities were invited to the meeting. This seems to mean that financial assistance of USAID is destined for them only.
We see this practice as oppressive in relation to Armenians living in Georgia! We are most infuriated by the fact that criminal regime of Saakashvili is supported in this by such a respected American organization as USAID!
If the world doesn’t want another Nagorny Karabakh in the Caucasus it must take care about our lot!
We hope that Bush administration will pay attention to Armenians’ problems too!
