Wish I could be there.
I was in Italy when the world cup was being played in the U.S. and the fans were wild. I was in Milano outside the Duomo and they had a fifty or so foot t.v. screen set up and the square was filled with thousands of fans watching Italy play. All the stores were closed because everyone was watching the game.
We in the States don't get that crazy over any sporting event.

so lets hear your views
Soccer is a fun sport, a good unifying tool of humanity in this day and age. I've played it for years with whomever was willing, played in leagues and so forth. But I'm afraid that it, like most sports, is boring as all get out to sit and watch for hours at a time. Football, hockey, and basketball manage to keep your interest for quite some time, but soccer is very dragged out at times (though it pales in comparison with the travesty of NASCAR).

The world cup is the biggest sporting event on the face of the planet. It's friggin awesome. I love the world cup and watch as many games as I can. I can remember back to the 1978 world cup. In the 1990 WC - I had just graduated college & we stayed in our college house for an extra month drinking lots of beer & watching the WC all day, every day for a month.
Unfortuanately for England - Wayne Rooney broke his foot yesterday - big issue if it's not fixed in time.

As for the World Cup, I predict it'll go to Germany. Home side advantage might give them enough of an edge to pull it off. Plus, Brazil won last time and the odds don't favor them doing it twice in a row.
I, of course, will be rooting for the USA but reality says they won't get too far.

The USA could win it, Germany really beat em on a handball last world cup. That game where the US beat Portugal was one of the best soccer matches I've ever seen.
I think the USA will do a good showing. I watched that game not long ago where they were really pounded 1-5, but I hope that was just using less experienced players. Their play was very lackluster.

I am not going to take sides here, but I like Germany's chances, just cause it's held there. But which group do you think it's the hardest?

Their play was very lackluster. With Italy and Czech Republic in their group, it's not going to be easy getting past the group stage. Even if they do, there's a good chance they'll play Brazil in the round of 16. And, well, that'll be the end of that.
Anyone watching England V Hungry ??

In the latest World Cup news... Wayne Rooney will, in fact, be on the England team for the World Cup. It isn't certain whether he'll be fit enough to play any games, but there is a "good chance."

It gets a bit insane here during the World Cup, the usual over drinking and brute behaviour thug mentality (anyone remember my workfreind who joined here called UKHolligan or something along those lines). Never been a huge fan of football however the excitment that comes from watching England is undeniable.
At work we did a whip round, every one put in a fiver and they pulled the teams out of a hat. I got "Togo" and now know more about their national team than I do about Englands. Even ordered the shirt off the net lol, Come on Togo!!! Come on.

Another good game today..........Germany vs. Ecuador.
The score was lopsided but the play by the Germans was masterful and a joy to watch. It is the constant play both on and off the ball that makes the game so exciting and interesting.

Would've like that England with Germany played the semi finals, as well as Argentina with Brazil, then we would have had one European and one Américan (not USA) in the final match.

I said in the very beginning, when people were predicting either Argentina or Brazil as World Cup champion that neither team would win it. The South Ameicans just don't do well in Europe, other than the games that were held in Sweden. Once again it will be an all Europe World Cup semi final and final.

For once I'd like to see someone other than the usual 3 or 4 teams win the Cup. Right now, Portugal is the only team that would be able to do that.

The South Americans just don't do well in Europe.
Americans do well in Europe, lots of them play for lots of Football Clubs in several countries, and as for the Football World Cup, Argentina lost only on penalty kicks, and Brasil just 0-1...
