MIAMI (AP) - Ricky Williams will sit out another season.

The NFL suspended the troubled Miami Dolphins running back for one year Tuesday after he violated the league's substance abuse policy for the fourth time.

Williams met April 10 with NFL counsel Jeff Pash in an attempt to have the league overturn the test. He had been participating in the offseason training program at the Dolphins' complex, and he was there working out shortly before league announced that his appeal had been rejected.

"I'm disappointed with the decision, but I respect it," the 2002 NFL rushing champion said in a statement released by the team. "I'm proud of my association with the National Football League and look forward to returning to the Dolphins in 2007."

Williams also sat out the 2004 season after retiring shortly before training camp. He returned last year to play for new Miami coach Nick Saban.

Why do they wanna me$$ up thier lives with this crap?? I wonder if he'll return to playing next year..

I don't think he ever wanted to play, ever.

He has suffered from various mental illnesses over the years and has claimed that he hates the game of football.

This might be a good thing for him in the long run.

The average NFL player's career lasts only 2 years.
Many are crippled for life after playing this game for very long.
As long as there's guys willing to exchange their mobility and health in exchange for glory/millions of dollars, I don't see the NFL ever being desperate for players.

PS Good news for Packer fans--Brett to return.

I have to say that in the short run it is probably good news for the Packers. In the long run, it might well be better for Aaron Rodgers to get some playing time. Now what the Packers need is an offensive line to protect Favre, and recievers for Favre to throw to. A better defense would help as well, although they have taken some steps there in free agency.
All in all, I suspect the Packers will be a mediocre team this year, but Favre will have a shot at setting some records. I wish him well in this.

ESPN was reporting that he is talking to the Toronto Argonauts about playing there this year. He would have to be released from his contract with Miami to sign there, but they might be willing to do that. Perhaps he heard about Canada's lenient drug laws.

I think eventually Miami is going to let him play in the CFL. With Ronnie Brown, they dont really need Ricky, so at least letting him play in the CFL will be able to show NFL teams he can play, and hes worth trading for. Especially with the conditions of thr CFL fields, if Ricky plays the whole season, it shows he wants to keep playing in the NFL!
