The SETI@home program is a special kind of screensaver. Like other screensavers it starts up when you leave your computer unattended, and it shuts down as soon as you return to work. What it does in the interim is unique. While you are getting coffee, or having lunch or sleeping, your computer will be helping the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence by analyzing data specially captured by the world's largest radio telescope.

Just a warning: if you use this as a screensaver, I'd reccommend setting your monitor to turn off after a certain amount of minutes, because some parts of the screensaver don't move and could cause burn-in.

I used to use that screensaver a couple/few years ago and I noticed it would crash certain programs....Of course, that might have been back when I had my PII:)

It was not lost on me, Ed. That's why I have it always run, instead of just when its screensaver starts.
