Everyone knows that murder is wrong. In order to cope with ignoring such strong morals many systems get put into place. Practice shooting at human shaped targets is one. Racism is another. It far easier to murder people when you do't view them as human or when you are extremely paranoid and think any and everyone is out to get you.

I view Iraqis as people though, and respect them as equals. Also, I'm in the military, and as far as I can tell, far less reactionary and inflammatory than, say, Napsterbater. This is really kind of amusing to me, since the only two people here guilty of assigning negative labels upon a wide group of people they have never met, are those accusing others of being racist. Shit there was a UK guy that quit because of how digusted they were at the racism of the americans and treating the Iraqis as "untermenschen".It's unfair to attribute that to racism when soldiers have been able to kill people of their own race just as easily, like during the Civil War, WWI, WWII, etc. You also make it sound like the military trains and encourages soldiers to kill civilians when, in fact, it's quite the opposite. In any training there's always an emphasis on choosing targets selectively and not harming innocents. That doesn't mean that soldiers don't break the rules sometimes, but the idea that they are trained to do so is way off the mark.

And on a personal note, let me say that I've found the military to actually be less racist than the civilian world. I haven't faced a single instance of racism since I've been in, which is something I can't say about my civilian life.
