Should be an interesting season--the Barry Bonds debacle--why doesn't the cheater just retire??--the Sox fighting off the Indians--I would imagine this battle will go down to the wire.
But I look to the Southsiders to repeat. They have added to their already-dominant rotation and this should carry them through (I hope.)
SOX FOREVER........

Astros fan here. I'm personally disappointed how Brad Lidge has sucked this year. Of course, we'd have a lot better shot if we get Clemens, which I think will happen, but we need is somebody like Beltran, who we had half a season a couple years ago. Somebody who can really drive in some runs would guarantee the Astro's a wildcard spot.

The Sox BARELY beat the Cardinals last nite.
It was 20-6.
A taste of things to come this October.

Another close one--Sox win 13-5.
My god, is this the best the National League has to offer?
True, the Cards don't have Pujols. However, their pitching is atrocious.
Our ace started, Mark Beuhrle, tho he didn't have a good game.
Next up for the Cards--the Tigers, my grandpa's old team.
I could almost feel sorry for the Cards.

Ain't they somethin'?

LOL, why do I get the feeling that you've been waiting for just this moment to pounce? :)
The Twins are a fine team and are making a real run --to no avail, alas.
The gods of baseball have ordained that last year's WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS will repeat. We are out of our slump, hooray!
Contreras pitched a 3- hit gem last night in defeating the Tigers; Twins lose to Toronto. (Toronto?)
It's ALL over, sedan!:hitout:

The Twins are a fine team and are making a real run --to no avail, alas. You may be right about that. They're a young team and I don't get the feeling that they're a 'team of destiny' just yet, as they will be in another year or two. But then again, I felt the same about the '87 Twins and look what happened.
The problem with your White Sox theory is that they have to play the Twins six times in the next two weeks. Let's hear what you have to say in September!
BTW, you're absolutely right about the National League. All three teams (Twins, White Sox, Tigers) mowed them down like so much grass. During one stretch the Twins went 17-2 against the NL and gained only a single game on the Tigers and Sox!!

You're right, the next 2 weeks will be something. Two good teams, fighting for the wildcard /division--it doesn't GET any better!
I say the Tigers are too young. Those young pitchers of theirs' arms are now wearing out. At least I HOPE so.
Frogger--it is WAY too early for you to be this loaded. And you, a former schoolteacher. For shame.

Looks like it might be time for Ozzie to pitch another fit in the dugout......I don't know how much more of this I can take........

Looks like it might be time for Ozzie to pitch another fit in the dugout......I heard Ozzie say that if the Whiteys played in the National Leage they'd win 150 games. ROFL, he's probably not far wrong.

Sox win, 6-1 behind Buehrle, whose erratic pitching this year is enough to drive even die hard fans to the funny farm. Avoid sweep, pull within half a game of your Twins, Sedan.

Twins start a four game homestand against the Tigers today. A split won't cut it if they want to contend for the division title. Word is Liriano will be back in the rotation soon. If they can make the playoffs they'll have a devastating one-two punch with he and Santana. Here's hoping they get the chance to take down the hated Yankees.

WE are the team of destiny--I think our guys have this mindset they can crank it up a notch any dang time they feel like it---kinda like last year, when they cruelly flirted with the Indians and let them get so close.
The time, tho, to crank it up a notch is NOW.

My god, what a gem by Garcia--only gave up 1 hit.

Honestly, the only AL central team I think that has a shot at beating the Yankees now are the White Sox, and they are currently 3 games back in the wild card. With Liriano being shut down, I can't see the Twins taking them down and the Tigers have been rather bland in the latter part of the season.
Don't sleep on the A's either, they've quietly started to play really good baseball and currently have a better record than the White Sox.
rendova
09-17-2006, 07:17 PM
I don't know--I think any 3 of the top teams in the AL Central are capable of beating the Yankees, and the Indians play good ball too---but my god, the way we've been playing lately, maybe we don't even deserve to get in the playoffs even as a wild-card----letting runs WALK in on Saturday, and also letting Frank "The Big Roid Rat" Thomas beat us---this is getting downright scary---Ozzie, Ozzie, are you listening?
We play the Tigers and Twins comning up in the next 2 weeks--I have not given up hope---I swear, we are not finished yet.......

Garcia shuts out Tigers last night at Comiskey; Twins within half a game of lead, Sox still 5 games back.
Freddie Garcia's superb pitching lately has almost single-handedly kept us alive. Bless his heart, he might be the one who gets the others in the rotation going. Sometimes it just takes one guy.
We play the Tigers again tonite and tomorrow.

Six games back--looks like it's the land of parting gifts for the Sox.
I have to give credit to the Tigers, winning on the road, and taking it to us when it counted. Maybe they want it more than we do.
Tho we scored more runs this year than last, we just couldn't seem to get it going when it counted. Ah well, it's also mental.."Ninety percent of this game is half-mental"......it's so hard to repeat.
Anyhoo, it's nice to see other teams besides the same tiresome 4 or 5 challenge for the Series. And you know who they are.....it's good for the sport.
Tho I'm far from a Red Sox fan, I have to give them credit for opening the floodgates 2 years ago and letting other teams think they actually have a chance too.
Maybe it's too soon to say this, but if the Tigers get in I'll be rooting for them all the way. My Grandpa played for them back in the day and was teammates with Ty Cobb. He would be proud of their achievements this year.

On June 7 the Twins were 25 - 33, 11.5 games behind Detroit and 11 behind the Whiteys. Today they are 90 - 61, tied for first place going into tonight's game. Since June 7 they are 64 - 28, a scorching .700 winning percentage. That's with losing two of their starting pitchers to injuries. It just doesn't seem to matter with these guys. They simply find a way to win. No matter what happens this has been an incredible season.

Yes, it's all my fault we suck so much now--talking about how wonderful they were earlier---and now look--we lost to the MARINERS LAST NITE 9-0.. nine to nothing!!!!!!!!
From now on, i'm gonna talk about how rotten and depraved we are, and this will ensure we go back to the Series next year ( we have to confuse the capricious baseball gods...)
PS Anyone who doesn't want the Yankees to win (or even GO to the Series, and that includes 99. 999999% of the population) should root for the Yankees!!

Well, the Twins couldn't handle Oakland's solid pitching. Guess I'll have to root for the Tigers now. But whoever faces Oakland will meet a well-rested pitching staff -- it won't be easy.
Still, it was a great season and the Twins are a young team. I'm looking forward to next year. :)
