ABC Suspends Producer Over Bush-Bashing E-Mail

By Howard Kurtz
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, April 1, 2006; Page C01

ABC News suspended the executive producer of the weekend edition of "Good Morning America" yesterday over a pair of leaked e-mails in which he used inflammatory language to slam President Bush and Madeleine Albright.

John Green, whose unpaid suspension will last one month, apologized to the White House in a call to communications director Nicolle Wallace, while two ABC executives called the former secretary of state to apologize.

In one of the e-mails, written during the first presidential debate in 2004 and leaked to the Drudge Report, Green wrote to a colleague on his BlackBerry: "Are you watching this? Bush makes me sick. If he uses the 'mixed messages' line one more time, I'm going to puke."

Inflammatory?

Why is it that a man who sent a private email is being suspended for making private comments? This is BS.

Well gee guerilla,

First last and foremost, ABC News is a private organization and has every single right in the world to suspend/fire it's employees whenever it wants. Their ball, their rules, dammit.

Secondly, the mainstream press just took some heavy heat from Bush about how they've slanted the news stories from Iraq to show only the worst that is happening there. Bush managed to strike a nerve and ABC, like other news organizations, are doing their best to appear neutral and they really can't afford having one of their top tier employees writing bad things about Bush.

The only question really is, did ABC suspend Mr Green because he was writing memos about Bush, or was it because he got caught?

Dammit.

That's bizarre.

Is this the end of free speech in Amerikkka?

What next?....can the management of a company simply fire or suspend someone out of hand because they let slip that they dislike strawberry ice cream, when it is the case that the owner LIKES it?

Can't people choose whether or not to like the elected leaders in this country?!?!?!?!?!?!

John Green, whose unpaid suspension will last one month, apologized to the White House in a call to communications director Nicolle Wallace........

Apologized?!?!?!

Now i'm the one who feels like puking.

Behold the power of Conserva-Fascism and its stranglehold over this society.

If the same person had -- ten years ago-- sent an e-mail in which he proclaimed his abject hatred for the then president, no apology would have ever been given....nor would it have been demanded by ABC management that the person give such an apology........nor would it have been warranted.

People are ---or WERE, until now-- free to say that the president "makes them sick".

Was it the conserva-facists who also caused the network to apologize to Madeleine Albright on behalf of this apparently anti-semetic progressive?

on behalf of this apparently anti-semetic progressiveChrist...Just because it deals with judeism doesn't mean its anti-semitism. What a gross misuse of the term. I would say what he said was inappropriate and rude. But then again I never should have even read that statement. These were private emails.

Agreed, but in the context of some idiotic rant about conserva-facists, it seemed appropriate.

I don't recall the incident.

I'd have to know the details.
