OUR conception of space and time could be turned on its head thanks to an Australian scientist who has found the speed of light may be slowing.

These are interesting observations. It is well known that Einstein's General Theory of Relativity is not the final word. In fact, even Einstein new this. It cuts the errors between the calculated motions of the planets in the solar system using Newton's laws in half, but there is still a difference between the calculations and the observed motion. If people have chosen to believe that Einstein was the final word, they have done so in error.
There are a number of observations of particles moving faster than the speed of light in nature. There is an accumulating body of experimental evidence that demonstrate things that Einstein's Theory says can't happen, just as there was an acumulating body of evidence that contradicted Newton's Laws when Einstein formulated his theory. It is just waiting for the next genius to figure out a better theory.
This does not diminish Einstein's genius, just as Einstein's work doesn't diminish Newton's. All scientists draw upon the work of their predecessors, and expand upon it.
