The person who played Southparks "chef" has quit the show.

Why? because of the recent "scientology" episode where the religion was ridiculed. The voice of the chef is a scientologist, so he took offense and quit. Meanwhile, this comes after MANY episodes by southpark which ridiculed christians, jews, blacks, canadians, indians, etc.... and yet the scientologist was FINE with that.

but dont mess with scientology.

There is OBVIOUSLY an agenda for scientology.. because comedy central was NOT ALLOWED to replay the episode...

thats right, NOT ALLOWED

they can play the episode that made fun of "the passion of the christ" 50 times in a row.. but scientology? dont mess with it.

Can someone say "first amendment rights?"

I cant stand scientology, tom cruise is crazy, as are all the others who follow it. And now they are getting their way even though it is probably the LEAST PRACTICED religion on the face of the earth... our media and gov't have no backbone...

How do they enter into this? The dude isn't trying to censor South Park using the law; he just left, which he has every right to do. Some network bigwig, in an attempt to smooth things over, blocked the episode. Big whoop. Move along, nothing to see here.

For the record, Scientologists are fucking nuts.

The thread belongs in Chat Central, but otherwise, it's good discussion fodder.

Interesting site Reb, watch out for Zenu, he has his eye on you.

It is also interesting how so many organizations today are credited with the "out to take over the world" attitude.
Democrats and Republicans get this tag occasionally, as do most religions.

They are one up on me. Hell, I would'nt want the world from what I have seen of it. ;)

He's black too, so he's not 100% inconsistent.

Gotcha.

Scientologists are people with feelings too and we should respect them and their beliefs.

Christians are so stupid and funny. Ha! Ha! they make me laugh.

I think it’s especially hilarious for south park to make fun of mormons (joseph smith episode… dum dum dum dum) but they can’t make fun of scientology. I asked my mormon friend (who happens to be an AWESOME person) and he said it’s because mormons have a sense of humor. I love south park, and no show should be banned. Don’t deprive the viewers!!!!

Don't be too sure Chef has quit South Parkthe whole article seems to be written on heresay. And chef is dead so he isn't coming back. Isaac hayes on the other hand might, assuming the article is true. But given the way trey and matt killed him off I'm pretty sure it was reported correctly in the first place.

Anyone catch "the nanny" episode? so goddamn good...

It's a personal choice. If an episode was filled with black jokes and stereotypes of Jews, but continued the episode with poking fun at "Jesus' sex life", would you turn it off after the black jokes, the stereotypes, or after Jesus was ridiculed?

There is OBVIOUSLY an agenda for scientology.. because comedy central was NOT ALLOWED to replay the episode...

Comedy Central sure can, because they are invoking their right of free speech by choosing what sort of material is played on that station. If you don't like what they play, IE: Lambasting Christianity but giving Scientology the thumbs up, don't watch their programming anymore. Invoke your rights, as they do theirs, and in the meantime don't complain that they won't pander to your vision of what needs to be on television, South Park thrives on being controversial, and will hopefully continue to do so.

What do you care?

Thats a perfect question... i see others getting "offended FOR others"..and i ALWAYS ask that question.

BUT the thing of it is... it OFFENDS me that the Chef guy was offended. He has NO RIGHT to draw the line if he's already made fun of everything else. He had NO PROBLEM being in episodes where Jesus is ridiculed. And dont even get me wrong.. i dont CARE if Jesus is ridiculed. Its funny stuff.. and i dont take it seriously, it doesnt offend me. BUT.. IF you are going to make fun of Jesus, then Scientology should ALSO be on the map... and the fact that he picked up and left shows he's a bigot who can dish out but can't take.

It's a personal choice. If an episode was filled with black jokes and stereotypes of Jews, but continued the episode with poking fun at "Jesus' sex life", would you turn it off after the black jokes, the stereotypes, or after Jesus was ridiculed?

I sure wouldn't turn it off.. i think the show is hilarious. I just ask that ALL things can be made fun of...

Its not the show im talking about.. its the people. I dont see how people can consciously rip into all other groups and then get mad when they get ripped on.... i mean what IS that?? Basically, to sum it up... a scientologist has NO BUSINESS being offended by Southpark.. They ARE contraversial and they DO push the envelope... but what he did was so SELFISH.

He didnt care if any other group was offended when he did the other shows.. he did them and took the money. But OHHHHH now that HE is getting ridiculed.. he's picking up his ball and going home. He's whistling past the graveyard, and I dont buy it and it makes me sick. Its a very bad representation of "Scientology", not that it needs tons of help...but they're obviously not very tolerant.

To momentarily take Decka's side, he is well within his prerogative to complain about a network not abiding by the spirit of the Constitution, even if the Comedy Central is not bound by it per se. I don't buy the "They aren't the government so this stuff doesn't wash" line. We are all part of this great nation, and we should all strive to provide as open of forums as we can to best foster a free marketplace of ideas.

That being said, I do think Decka is being just a little selective in his griping. The tired old, "Christians are being persecuted against," line again. I just love it when a person who endlessly complains about gays and their quest for societal acceptance pisses and moans when a network decides not to purposely offend a group of people. I mean, seriously, Comedy Central lives enough on the edge as it is, pushing boundary after boundary that other networks wouldn't dare touch, making television better for all of us. So, now the peanut gallery thinks that Comedy Central isn't doing enough to foster free expression? Gimme a break.

BUT the thing of it is... it OFFENDS me that the Chef guy was offended. He has NO RIGHT to draw the line if he's already made fun of everything else. He had NO PROBLEM being in episodes where Jesus is ridiculed. What does that offend you? He has every right to be offended when his "religion" is insulted, and is not required to be upset over things like the "Piss Christ."

So he's a bigot, eh? I prefer the idea that he hasn't the sense of humor to laugh at himself. And if you don't care if He is ridiculed, why are you upset that they aren't as well?

Basically, to sum it up... a scientologist has NO BUSINESS being offended by Southpark.. He doesn't write the scripts, and since it is his "religion" he can do as he pleases when it is insulted.
They ARE contraversial and they DO push the envelope... but what he did was so SELFISH.
First of all, he is a paid voice actor--unless bound by contract he has no obligation to stay at the job for any reason or length of time. Secondly, Christianity is controversial, and pushes the envelope as well.

Essentially your argument is fleshing out as "Since I don't believe in Scientology, it needs to be ridiculed (especially if other faiths are)." That's a losing argument, don't tell people what to say or how to think.

What does that offend you? He has every right to be offended when his "religion" is insulted, and is not required to be upset over things like the "Piss Christ."

He may have "every right".. but it stinks like shit. If i go up to the basketball court, and to EVERY SINGLE PERSON up there i say "you suck! You suck at basketball and you're also ugly as sin!" (LOL) ... and then someone comes up to ME and says "No.. YOU suck and YOU are ugly as sin"... and then i get all pissed off and leave??? What the hell is THAT all about? That is basically what the guy did. He dealt out, or was a part of, episode after episode of hilarious humor which targeted every religion.. but as soon as his was mentioned, he left. That is called being a poor sport, that is called not being able to take what you dish out, and while he has the "right" to do it, all i am saying is its just plain shitty to do that. He picked up his ball and went home; he's a winey, complaining, immature scientologist.

Everyone can use some constructive criticism.. if you never listen to other's opinions.. how do you learn anything? But away from that endless debate...

I would say this isn't about "rights".. its about "ediquette"(i probably misspelled it)... while he may be well within his "rights"... he comes off as a selfish asshole, which is entirely possilbe to do. He committed no crime, but he sure looks like a dolt.

I enjoy how the tone changed within one post from: "He has NO RIGHT to draw the line if he's already made fun of everything else. He had NO PROBLEM being in episodes where Jesus is ridiculed." and "Basically, to sum it up... a scientologist has NO BUSINESS being offended by Southpark.." to now a criticism of the obvious etiquette problem.

The man can do as he pleases, especially in a case where it is his "paid job" and the fact that it is his religion being the subject of ridicule. Case closed.
