I have to say that would be a stupid outfit to wear as a police officer. Step on the bottom and trip them up very easy for a thug to do some damage.

Lighten up googs. The video definitely had it's comedic aspects, and it had nothing to do with race...anyone would look ridiculous rappeling in a burqua. Also mad dog's comment about the safety aspects of the outfit are right on. Ever wonder why the Marines keep their hair so short? It isn't a fashion statement, it's so you can't grab onto it.

Making an insult to traditional clothing is in insult to me. You're justifications are lame. People are so hypocritcal these days. You guys claim Islam gives women no rights but when you guys see something like this you make jokes. And I for one do not think its funny.

Your bottom line is if somebody isn't worshipping at your feet & agreeing with everything you think then they are racist.

Watch the video posted in another thread - you could learn something from that arab woman.

Who the heck is "you guys"?

You'll find that everyone has different opinions here, and perhaps you don't think it's funny, but other people do, and I think that's perfectly understandable.

Did anyone make a joke that was insulting to women, Iranians, arabs, or any other inappropriate comment?...No.

Calling us racist for knee-jerk laughing is insulting to us and comedy itself! :D

You're justifications are lame.

Finding it funny is sort of "not a choice", therefore the fact that we laugh is perfect justification.

People are so hypocritcal these days.

Like Mohammed and the many wives he kept, despite being limited to four?

And I for one do not think its funny.

Being inconsiderate of other peoples beliefs, people have made insults toward the way these women dress. And me being a muslim, it affected me because I have family that dress and wear the hijab. Although they do not wear the veil over their face and they do not dress in black, it still had an effect. I wouldn't really say insult anymore but more of being inconsiderate. And since i was upset over previous statments, it sort of led into this discussion.

Ok, fair enough. Let me ask, ignoring for a moment the religious propriety of the hijab, do you think it's appropriate attire for a police officer?

In essence, you seem to be saying we should ignore the absurdity of trying to perform police work in this inappropriate attire because the clothing has some religious significance. You may have a point, but I think people might find it equally amusing to see a Christian nun in full habit scuba diving. The absurdity that was found amusing had nothing to do with the women's race, or religion, it was just funny to see someone wearing such clothing engaged in that particular activity.

They are not being racist. It doesn't matter if it offends you and it doesn't matter if they make jokes. People are allowed to think whatever they want is funny (or sad based on your perspective).

I was calling Reb, Prea and ES racist on the other threads because they were labeling all muslims fanatics and claiming the violent religious extremists were only muslims. That is racism.

People laughing at the fact that religious nuts are so oppressive that they make women wear shit the explicitly hinders their ability to do their jobs is funny.

Women are oppressed in Islamic countries. So are the men. If you can't that forcing all people to beleive the same thing is oppressive then you got some learning to do.

I talk shit about America for its messed up values but that nothing compared to Iran and Arabia. At least here people can choose to do what they please (and possibly be disciminated against for it). Over there, if your different, they throw you in jail forever.

BTW did anyone catch the great family guy episode where they move to saudia arabia (rhymes with labia)......

Psssssst: it's a religion - not a race.

And just so we're clear - I was only pointing out the sheer number of Muslims that were given to rioting / firebombing / and, or general destruction in the name of their religion. Now, if that came across in a manner that made your limp-wristed ass a tad squeamish, then I'll have you know that I don't really give a fuck. "Blind American nationalism"??? Whatever you say, Nap. I suspect that short of calling America the shittiest country on Earth, you'd label anyone a "blind nationalist". I mean, after all, using your keen ability to rationalize the obvious, didn't you determine the show "Cops" was racist? Considering that fact alone, I think I'll take your assessment here with a grain of salt...

It's fun to converse with people who occasionally make you laugh, and believe it or not, it's fun to be proven wrong (at least, for me it is...). I enjoy several people here. Brooks has an amazing dry wit. I'm an awe of FT's ability to articulate his thoughts, and Sedan is an excellent debater with a keen knowledge of politics and a level head (and that's despite him being a lefty, of course). I particularly find your ability to analyze things for what they're worth intriguing; and yes....you're good at reading character (even if it's through a computer monitor...).

Well being that I know so much about you (other than the fact that you smoke pot, have "lots of friends" who find the time to heckle cops and minutemen in Arizona, and are 25), silly me for thinking that you attend a class with a retard. If you are, in fact, a special needs "teacher", then I sincerely apologize. I simply wasn't aware of the fact that you told us your occupation.
