There's been those who said Howard never actually KNEW much about what he wuz commentin' on, especially boxin', but he WUZ entertainin'...
Still, it bringz to mind the question of...
...INANE sportz commentary...
I remember a perticlar exchange between some bow-tied ol' gent 'n Ken Norton, both of who wuz s'posed ta be commentin' on an Ali fight as I recall:
Mr Bow-tie: Frazier just hit Ali with another shot to the midsection, but Muhammad is so well conditioned in that area of his body, that it has no effect! Wouldn't you AGREE, Mr Norton?
Ken Norton: I would NOT agree! It HAS to have an effect... You'll notice as the fight goes on that Ali is getting off his stool much slower...
Mr Bow-tie: Well, it looks to me that Ali just bounced up off his corner stool pretty fast THERE, wouldn't you say?
Ken Norton: No, I would NOT say that...
Mr Bow-tie: Oh. Well... You're the expert...
I gotta admit I chuckle jestalittlebit at such commentary...
I also remember anuther boxin' ol'-timer (not well-known) who wuz commentatin' on a LOCAL TV boxin' match:
Old-timer: The thing in boxin' that ya wanna WATCH fer is DELELOPMENT! There! SEE how that guy's jab ta the nose started his opponent's blood flowin'? Prob'ly a broken nose... That's what I'm TALKIN' ABOUT...
Development...
;)
