It's s'posed ta be x = -b plus or minus the square root of b-squared minus 4ac all OVER 2a, not...

...UNDER 2a...

M. D.: But I want it to be UNDER, not OVER... Where are MY rights?

Odder: You still HAVE 'em, M. D... (I think...)

M. D.: So then, WHEN do I get to do it MY way?

Odder: Git yerself a college degree 'n then start teachin' the NEW new math...

I would say the x has rights also.

If you want -b plus or minus the square root of b-squared minus 4ac to be UNDER 2a, then you have to put the x UNDER 1 too.

Just to keep things reciprocal.

Zero. (x-x) = 0 and anything multiplied by zero is, of course, zero.

Why is it called Dennis's equation?

A google search and Wikipedia turned up nothing.

It is thus because es347fan's name is Dennis...

Arthur: Old woman!
Dennis: MAN!
Arthur: Man, sorry. What knight lives In that castle over there?
Dennis: I'm 37.
Arthur: What?
Dennis: I'm 37! I'm not old!
Arthur: Well, I can't just call you "man".
Dennis: You could say "Dennis".
Arthur: I didn't know you were called Dennis.
Dennis: Well you didn't bother to find out, did you?

Very true. While I've known that little gem for a very long time, I certainly didn't think it up, I can barely keep a checkbook straight! Somebody, somewhere in my travels shared it with me, and I've got a long memory. However, I did have it published under my name, in the San Antonio Express News in their Math Minute column after I offered it to the column's writer & he could not solve it.
